Remember folks, this is sports.

When the Gophers won the PR tournament in November I was pretty sure that they would challenge for the B10 title and a number one seed. Relative to expectations, I can't remember a more disappointing season. This team fell through the basement. Tubby is extremely well compensated to navigate through adversity. He failed. If he worked for me I would honor his contract because there is no choice, but I would not extend it.

Lets look forward. Hopefully we will make the NIT and end the season on a high note (compared with the last month or so....).

I was sure this was the year that we could relax on Selection Sunday. I never thought it would be this way. It's a huge letdown. That said, the extension needs to be done. Tubby's not going anywhere and you don't leave a coach languish with less than 4 years on their deal. If we had a competent AD and a willing coach, it would have been done last April.

Why is four years on a deal languishing? No recruit in the world really thinks that a coach is guaranteed to stay four years. As I've said before, if a coach is paid at a top 10 level and delivers top 100 results do we have to be tied to him for half a decade or more contractually?

Did you see Tubby's quotes after the BTT loss? He basically admitted the contract has been on the table waiting FOR HIM to sign it for awhile. He even went so far as to say "I hope they don't take anything off the table based on the string of losses."
