Any time there's a new commit it's always good to also start a new thread so those that aren't 23 pages into the Portal Watch thread can also see the news.

Great to see Kai all in on Minnesota for the 2025-26 season.

Go Gophers!!

good to see, niko needs to balance out the classes a bit, and i like how you phrased it, he's committed for the next season. if more people wrap their heads around many of these commitments are just 1 year situations, then it takes the angst off the roster movement.

Maybe has been reported elsewhere on GH, but held offers from mid majors. Along with Minnesota and Mississippi St.

Now we are seeing momentum. Long live momentum.
Gophs lost 2 to transfer, lost 2 previous commitments, kept 1 commitment, kept 2 from roster, added 1 transferee. The net change is zero. Now we have 4 players and need another 9 for the 13 available scholarships.

But the ship is no longer sinking. It is showing some buoyancy; some fight in her old bones. If you can't repair in the dry dock and you have taken a few hull shots, you have to make do with calm waters and a happy crew of carpenters. Long live the carpenters.

Apparently your glass is half empty.

The only reason this kid is not at a better basketball school is an injury, which deterred those teams from sticking with him. This kid is all about perseverance and effort. He fits what Minnesota needs. He has fight in him, focus and grit.

So which is it.....does he need to balance the classes or treat every player as a one year commitment? :)

I don't think balancing classes in the traditional sense matters but it is good to see guys come on board with multiple years left so that there is at least the possibility they could stick around for more than a single season.

Every year the entire team can be reclassified as free agents should they elect to enter the portal. Negotiations to raise their NIL to their agents valuation is the only way to keep them on the squad.

No. I'm a season ticket holder since 1987. You fill in the blanks.
I admire your perseverance. I had season tickets for 39 years starting in 1972. Finally gave them up due to the priority seating fiasco, weak non-conference foes, and ticket prices. I never thought I'd feel this way, but I don't really miss watching the team in person. Every game is now on TV and if the Gophers are being blown out, I can move on to something else. At my age, every moment is precious.

He is a Meh player. He likely would have ridden the bench prior to the coaching change.
I live near Philadelphia. He is okay, just not a starter in the Big 10.

Several DI schools had interest. Strange. You have very few posts on GH. Strange.

Despite the crazy amount of movement that is happening- it is still true that the place you are one year is the most likely place you are the next year. You can still get players to stay and develop. When they do- you have have the ability to pay them and the relationship that makes them want to stay if the incumbent team is at least competitive in terms of $$$

Must be something Niko likes in his game to recruit him to stay on board.

Was going to post something similar. Plus the kid is what 17-18 years old....could still be growing so might not be anything special now but maybe could develop into something. Time will tell.
