What impressed me most about the Gophers victory over Iowa was that Kill and his staff understood that their offense needed to change. Throughout the season, the Gophers' offense had been:

STEP 1: establish Cobb up the middle, until the DE's become frustrated and crash.
STEP 2: call the read option to punish the DE.
REPEAT steps 1 and 2 until the safeties become frustrated and cheat up.
STEP 3: pass over the top.
REPEAT steps 1-3.

Illinois packed the box and prevented a successful ground attack with Cobb. If domino #1 doesn't fall, then dominoes #2 and #3 don't fall either. And it worked.

Kill and crew recognized that everyone would copy this game plan. Iowa did. And Kill crushed them by attacking the edges early and often. That's insightful, clear-headed thinking and coaching, and I'm impressed. Impressed enough to post for the first time.

For the record, I've been lurking for at least four years. To the long-time posters, thank you. You've entertained me, and I've laughed more than once from the antics here. I've learned a lot too. That even goes for Dr. Don.

Nice first post. Praising Dr. Don is only going to encourage him. :)

You make too much sense. You seem to understand too clearly. You obviously are lost and accidentally wound up here. Please stay.
