What are they?

For current high school seniors? I assume we are already in the "late period"? When do these guys sign on the dotted line?

For current high school juniors (i.e. "The Big Three). When will juniors start to "verbal"?

I'm not sure what the difference is between the initial signing period and the final signing period, but here are those dates:

As far as the big 3 I'm not exactly sure, but my guess is they won't commit until late summer or in the fall.

Thanks. Looks like:

April 17th through May 15th

...if I'm readin' it correctly.

Pretty interesting times. We are sitting on 2-3 tenders depending on if we can get Ellis to recommit. Do you sign a PF and/or PG now? Or do you wait and go into next season with 4-5 when the picking will be much better, knowing you will have 5 tenders the following year? IMO Coach P. couldn't have come at a better time.

A few miscellaneous comments:

The key is this: Every day is an important recruiting date.

Different coaches will have different thoughts, but mine is: you decide on whether or not to bring in a player based more on that kid's fit with the program - is he a great addition? Good, then bring him in. The balancing of classes and looking forward to who may or may not come next year is secondary. Every day is an important recruiting date.

The NLI is often used, but not required. Don't get hung up on the end of the NLI period. You can bring kids in without an NLI and this is done frequently. Sometimes a kid is not allowed to sign an NLI between your school and him (for example, Alvin Ellis can't sign an NLI in the regular period with a different school). Don't get too hung up on it.

Class of 2014 kids started to verbally commit years ago. The Minnesota kids could pledge their commitment somewhere at any time.. but can't sign an NLI (if they chose to) until November.

The recruiting calendar is more important than NLI signing dates. Coaches will hit the road later this month to evaluate prospective student-athletes at numerous certified events.

Can you clarify this regarding Ellis? Are you saying Ellis cannot sign a NLI at all now? Or only with MN? If it is the former, then he really isn't "committed" until he enrolls in school? Does this include summer school?

Whatever your answer, does it apply to anyone who signed a NLI and was subsequently released from it? Or is Ellis a special case for any reason?

A prospective student-athlete can only sign one NLI in any given academic year. If he is given a complete release by Minnesota, Ellis cannot sign another NLI in the regular period.

Nothing unique to him and not really a big deal - it happens. In this circumstance the kids just sign a financial aid / scholarship agreement with the school.

(It's been reported by the traditional media and others that Ellis has been released from his NLI - I do not know this to be true [can't tell you one way or the other... but I can tell you I don't have any confirmation it's true])

GW sometimes comes on here and goes a little overboard with his explanations on some things, but when it comes to recruiting situations such as this, there is no doubt he knows his $hit. So, I anxiously await recruiting updates more so from GW than anyone else prior to any official news releases.
