The Virginia and Cornell games proved the importance of Al Nolen. Since he was a freshmen, the gophers play far better when he is on the floor. He changes the game because of how he gets in the passing lanes on defense, his ability to steal the ball, and his relentlessness on ball defense.
He has offensive shortcomings, but runs the point well and appeared to understand the his offensive role even better this year.
The gophers will continue to struggle until Al retruns.
A disturbing thought is what the gophers will do without him next year.

Give it to Andre Hollins?

hit their free throws for starters... Nolen would have helped against Cornell if he would have made some free throws. We win handily if we hit those..

What did we do with out Northway, Kondla, Thompson, Williams, McHale, Jackson, etc. Life goes on my man, life goes on. Enjoy this year. (For the record, I like Al also, get well soon)

He is still not a good shooter. if he could shoot he would be an NBA prospect. But, he brings so much else to the table that he may be the most important player on this team. He is the floor leader along with Hoffarber. I hope that developments this year have put behind us any question about the value of these two players.

Maybe if we had Nolen last year, we could have done crazy things like win at Illinois for the first time in a million years.. or beat up on Wisconsin by 16.. or beat Michigan State and Purdue, as well as Penn State, on an improbable run to the Big Ten Tourney Championship game and somehow, someway, find a way to make it to the NCAA tourney!!!

We have no chance without him on the floor. I wish we could trade Trevor for Westbrook.
