per the Imperial Valley Press:

A true junior, Thompson is also on target to graduate next year with a degree in business and marketing education. He also hopes to repeat last season’s feat of being named an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

“(The Texas Bowl) could be good for us in the secondary because (the Orange) like to throw so we’ll be on TV a lot and we’ve been on there a lot,” Thompson said. “I get a lot hits on Facebook and Twitter after those games because people see me. … When I got (to Minnesota), I learned pretty fast that it was some big-time football.”

Go Gophers!!

"...said Thompson last year." What?! We can't call him and get a quote from this year? Sheesh. What a lazy, crappy job by this paper. Cedric deserved a better effort. Shame on them.

the article states we're going for 9 wins for the first time since 1905. i've seen and heard several similar statements over the past month on TV and in print. WTF. Am I missing something or is our 10-3 record in 2003 invisible to people?

Technically they are right…first time shooting for 9 wins…in 2003 we were going for 10…lazy writing for sure but did you read the Trib article in the summer on the town where Cedric graduated?….an incredibly small town in the middle of nowhere where he could escape gangs. I bet is is a paper staffed by volunteers. I would say it is more good press about the Gophers…the academics and the big time football program so I would rather salute them for reminding everyone that the local boy is going to be on ESPN today playing for a great team for a great school. Go Gophers.

I agree with you 100%. I'm just amazed at how many media outlets have mistakenly overlooked 2003. Unless I misunderstood what they were saying, I would guess I've read or heard at least 5 statements by various sources claiming we haven't won 9 games in decades. I would bet they aren't doing any independent research.
