Several top prospects changed their interest level to low on the boards. However, it looks like Minnesota athletes are getting school interest. Frankly, I find this refreshing that Mr. Kill will be using his own judgement on the potential of players. Too often we see these kids overlooked because they show they were not well coached at the high school level, which shows the bias of the recruiting rankings. I think if we get coach Kill out to local schools each football season, we will see a big jump in Minnesota kids being recruited. There is more potential talent than is being recognized by the experts.

Don't know enough to agree but it's a question I've had for a while. How much are Minnesota high school kids underrated because of the lack of good coaching? It certainly seem that they tend to over achieve once they get into college. Best evidence of this is the performance of lower division schools on the national scene (I. E. UMD, St. Johns).

I have read here several times that many players get an extra star when they are being recruited by one of the big time college programs. The big name programs have to travel over a lot of recruits to notice what is going on in the upper midwest. It makes me wonder if a lot of players here slip under the radar. Of course there are big exceptions to that like Michael Floyd, Henderson, etc.

As long as Kill wins, I could care less if we field a team full of leprechauns.

Also when MN wants to recruit in Texas for example, they are recruiting not only against the Texas schools. Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma and other points in between have to be out done as well.

Kill mentioned Twin Cities and 5 hour radius in an interview I heard as well as Chicago, Georgia, and Florida.

How about a team of victorious munchkins?

Follow the Golden Brick Road!

There was going to be some readjustment in recruit interest regardless of who was named coach.

As for the Minnesota kids, I thought one thing Brewster could have done was hold a couple of scholarships at the end for the top Minnesota kids who had interest in playing for the Gophers and hadn't committed somewhere already; kids like Zach Vraa. I believe that Brewster did better than Mason in Minnesota in that he didn't tick off almost the entire high school establishment in the state, but something tells me Kill is going to do even better.

Kids like Heifort want to play here. Let's remember that JJ Watt was a two-star TE coming out of high school who has made himself into a special player at Wisconsin. He desperately wanted to play for the Badgers and while desire to play at a particular place isn't a guarantee of anything, it can be a nice place to start if the kid has a burning desire to excel.

I'll be happy as long as he doesn't completely quit recruiting outside the 5 hr radius.

You can't build a winning D1 football team with MN talent, the sad truth. But you can't build a winning D1 football team IN MN without them. The top 3-5 might be able to go wherever they want, the next 10-12-15 are probably looking at MN or NDSU, and I will take my chances with every one of 'em if I'm Jerry Kill. I still need 10-20 kids from somewhere else but getting 10-20 kids out of TX and OH and PA and FL is easier than getting 20-30 of 'em.

3 or 4 doesn't compute

The one thing I will argue with anybody is the statistical validity of having only 3-4 good D1 prospects in Minnesota any given year. Minnesota has 1.6% of the US population. Of that, we should have a share of at least 16 football players capable of attending top 40 programs. That means in any given year, we should be able to safely recruit 10 of those athletes for our needs. I would think that half of our recruits should be gathered from outside the state. But, that leaves the question in my mind as to why we are consistently only recruiting 4 or 5 of our best instate athletes every year. We can do better. There is no reason not to. There is an undefined talent base and rather low expectations on how many we should produce. I would stack a Minnesota athlete against any state athlete and we will measure up. It isn't like our students are a bunch of fat little girls or anything.

Jedi instincts

I started rooting for the Empire once the Ewoks came into play.

Luke was never a serious Jedi until his ol' man cut his hand off. He didn't move into high gear until the Ewoks made him look bad.
