'I'm worried about Maryland,' Alabama coach Anthony Grant says of Gopher speculation

Also, as posted in a different thread, Grant's season ended last night in a 1 point loss to Maryland in the NIT.

Go Gophers!!

It doesn't make sense to fire a coach who got to the second round of the NCAA and hire someone whose team lost at home in the NIT.

The best thing I can say for Anthony Grant, is that when Billy Donovan went to the Magic, the Florida AD was literally sitting in a plane in Richmond ready to hire Anthony Grant when Billy Donovan called him and told him he changed his mind. However, I would say that Anthony Grant's stock was higher then than it is now. The SEC has been awful the last few years, and he hasn't exactly taken advantage.

ugh...not this guy...he's unlikely to excite many and i don't think his Alabama body of work is all that impressive.

Why fire average to get average?

Look at his recruiting classes and compare them with Tubby.
Look at his conference record and compare it with Tubby.
He took over an absolute rebuild in Alabama (team was 20-30 in SEC 3 years before he arrived and have been 39-27 since) and has made them a decent basketball program.

If Grant is average, you can't consider Tubby's job at MN anywhere close to average.

It's WAY easier to recruit to Alabama than it is to Minnesota and it has everything to do with their football program. SEC is terrible and if you don't recognize that you're lying to yourself. He's made one NCAA tourney appearance in his four years there not saying he's not a decent coach but he's not a great coach.

Grant does nothing to excite the fan base. He may or may not be a hell of a coach, but his hire would be a PR disaster for the U. If he is the choice, I wish Teague would have held on to Tubby.

This would be a horrible hire. Couldn't even make the tourney playing in a horrendous basketball conference. Sheesh, why not hire Licklighter, I am sure he's available.

Is Grant next on Teague's list? I agree with the majority in the rest of this thread, this hire wouldn't excite me.
