I'm probably in the minority, but Tom Izzo

Good thing we didn't hire him, he would've been such a settle.

At one point I thought that there was a punchers chance Izzo would coach in Minnesota. For the Timberwolves, when his good friend Flip Saunders rejoined the franchise.

I do get annoyed by some of his get off the lawn rhetoric and his head shake in the hand shake line is annoying.

He’s a phenomenal coach and gets everything out of them. Hard nosed. Love the way he coaches.

Considering 44 teams received votes for preseason AP and MSU wasn’t won of them, he coached pretty good.

Jud Heathcote and Magic Johnson?
Yeah, no. one player does not make a blueblood. Indiana St is no blue blood. Neither are the Houston Cougars from the Phi Slamma period.

Winning a tough schedule year in, and year out, does do that.

Heathcote had two great years a decade apart. Other than that he was not spectacular. Not a bad coach or even mediocre.

Just review the year by year records. It’s undeniable when seen all at once.

Not spectacular but was in the NCAA's in 4 of his final 5 years with a national title.

That was a hell of nice thing to step into. Izzo has one title, so does Heathcote.

Izzo.......Meh

30 years 16 sweet 16’s or better. A final four every 10 years on average. I’d take it and call our coach Mr March.

There are blueblood Michigan State because Tom Izzo is there.
Do you really consider Michigan St a blue blood? They overachieve with lesser talent but don’t quite put them in the category below.

Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina and now UConn.

Well, I didn’t really define that, it was defined by the op. Take it up with him.

I suppose it wasn’t horrible to step into. They just made it Heathcote’s last years.

Izzo steps in. Doesn’t make it his first two. He rebuilds.

Now For the last 3 decades Izzo making the tournament has been as sure as death and taxes.

I used to think Izzo was a clean coach….
But I lost all respect for him after all his dealings with covering up an investigation into his program back during the Nassar investigation. Nothing good to say about him as a person!
A woman scorned? 🤔

Ummmmmm........now we are talking!

Where does this less-talented narrative come from? MSU has had at least double the 4 and 5 star recruits than the second place team in the league over his tenure. This year they did well without all-conference players, but this is the exception, not the rule (and he still has more 4 and 5 stars on his roster than everyone else in the B10 - just because Jaxon Kohler doesn’t seem to have the talent of a high-end recruit doesn’t mean he wasn’t).

But this isn't what you started the thread with here. Let's not move the goalposts. Izzo is a complete ass on the sideline. He's a grump. He deserves a T almost every trip up the floor. None of this is to say he isn't a good basketball coach. He is top of the line and has been for some time. I can't stand the guy, but I can admit he gets guys to play and win. That is not "meh".

Izzo will get in next year and do nothing with it yet again.

Of course, he'll do it with less talent. LMAO
