I'm going to take the high road and admit I was wrong.

That game was no blowout. I think I said something like 84-14. Way OFF.

USC isn't nearly as good as I gave them credit for. They will be middle of the pack in the Pac 10 and have a long road back before becoming a top 10 team again.

Care to gamble on their record in the Pack 10?

I'm not a gambler, I lose too much. But I'd argue Oregon, Oregon St and Stanford all are better than USC this year. They likely will lose to 2 of those teams and they could always lose one to Cal, Washington, or one of the Arizona teams. I still think they'll end 6-3 or 5-4. Feel free to let me know why they'll do better...

They looked pretty bad against a pretty bad Hawaii team...

This game said absolutely NOTHING. I predicted as such (no blowout, simply a business as usual victory for USC. pats self on back for accurate prediction). The only thing you can take away from this game is that USC is significantly better than the Gophers. You can't conclude the Gophers are good or bad (although you might be able to conclude they aren't indifferent, small victories I guess). You can't conclude USC is average, good, or great. This was a methodical victory by the better team. End of this weeks story. The real test for the Gophers is next week. A loss or a squeak by victory and this season is circling the crapper. A solid victory and they can at least go into the Big Ten feeling they belong there.

By that logic if I can beat my 8 year old daughter in Tennis I should be able to give Pete Sampras a game.

^Did you read my post? I said the game meant NOTHING. Just like you beating your 8 year old means NOTHING other than that you are better than her.

Please repeat Logic 101 sir.

My point is that even if we do step on N. Illinois (and there's no excuse for not crushing them like a bug), we're still going to get worked by just about every Big 10 opponent this season.

They'll get worked by NW, Pur., and Ill.?

Sorry, for my quick respone. I agree. You can skip Logic 101, I'll proceed straight to the eye doctor (didn't even notice the bold). I guess I already have low expectations and am basically inline with doogie. They solidly beat NIU, and at least you can say they should be able to compete with some teams in the Big 10 (NU, PU, Ill). At this point, I think that's the best we can hope for...

You are so predictable. Since you were wrong you say that USC was terrible and not that Minnesota was better than you thought. You are a great fan and an even better football mind. You should get your own column in a Twin Cities paper as you would fit in well with the rest of the d-bags in the media.

This game demonstrated just how difficult it is to play defense with 16 starters that are frosh or R-S frosh. Yeah, I know, there're only 11 Starters on defense. Even so, the gophers had the lead in the third quarter even if it was only for six seconds. Some missed tackles some lapses on pass coverage and a continued propensity to fail to stop at the corners. Still we led a top 20 team in the third quarter.
