This team has fight, and it certainly can play with anyone in the nation, let alone the BIG 10 conference. We definitely are in the running for a big 10 championship.
Our outside shooting has improved to 2012 NIT levels, beginning of the year we definately struggled, but it has come around big time. As long as we limit the shooters to Dre, Austin, and Mav. Joe and Rodney should only shoot when WIDE open from beyond the line.
We need to start boxing out on defense. We rely on Trevor and Rodney to outjump everyone and this is why we are soo damn bad on defensive rebounding. Not only did IU shoot 80% in the fist half, they got 2 or 3 chances each trip down the court. We cannot let that happen in hostile environments or at home.
Tubby needs to find a better way to use the bench against stronger teams. I don't 100% disagree with the hockey subs, as it's gotten us fresh legs late in games when we need it before. However, it is now quite obvious that at a hostile opponent we dont have 5 players that can keep up with top tier talent. That said, we do have 2 backup guards that can come in and play with the first line, Welch isnt a turnover machine like he has been in the past, and Mav can knock down a few 3s. Andre is serviceable because he knows his limitations.
Tough loss, but I'm proud of our 2nd half effort. We got blown out of the gym in the 1st half, but were by far the better team in the 2nd, when the game was IU wasn't shooting 80%. Had the refs stayed out of the way when we were making our runs in the middle of the 2nd half we might have won this game by 10 as IU didnt want to play our game in the 2nd half. Excited to play them in Minneapolis.
