I'm confused on the seating and unsold tickets.

Some where in the following statements I am wrong, where?

TCF Bank Stadium capacity: 50,805

Seats added by Vikings: approx 4500

Seats available for TCU game: 50805 + 4500 = 55305

Tickets available for TCU game: 55305

Approx tickets not sold to date for TCU: 3000

Math: 55305 - 3000 = 52305 tickets sold

Now this is more than the stadium was designed for!

So this brings up the question? Will the U keep the temp seats (4500) and make them permanent, so then we can say our seating capacity is over 55,000

or will we not keep the temp (viking) seats and go back to a capacity of 50805. Of so we have actually sold more tickets than the Stadium was designed for.

?????????

I seem to remember someone - Teague or some other U official, saying they would not keep the extra seats after the Vikes move into their new stadium.

There are pros and cons to each side. More seats means more tix can be sold, generating more income. But, that only happens if you sell all of the available seats. And, empty seats don't look good, especially in a smaller stadium, when other schools sell many more tix for their facilities. One suspects the U would like to built up ticket demand and encourage people to purchase season tix so they don't get shut out. Long-term, if the U could build up a season-ticket waiting list, then they might be able to start talking about expanding the stadium. (maybe they can bring back Teague for more of that great fund-raising.............)

Real confusing isn't it?

Found a couple of places where it says the capacity now is 52,525. One of them was from the official Gophersports site in the notes before the Eastern Illinois game. Another said that included 2,000 temporary seats. 2-3 sites said the capacity was 50,805 before the temporary seats were installed. Another said the capacity was 50,300 before temporary. Can't find a site saying they added 4,500 seats, but did quit trying after awhile.

Oh and heard the (bleep) Teague answer a question from Barrerio by saying that yes, the temporary seats would be retained. Then later heard him answer the same question by saying that no they wouldn't be retained. Much like he said that ticket prices hadn't been raised since 2009 even after he was corrected again and again.

After the last couple of weeks figured out that not telling the truth was always Norwood's go to move.

I hope they are removed. They look out of place. It's only extra revenue when you're selling all the other seats too.

Considering they are blue... Though that end will look very open and less intimidating with them gone after getting used to them.

Definitely hope they go away. I like having that plaza area under the scoreboard.

Way less than 2% chance they are still around after this season. Same with the turf.

Though I wouldn't be totally surprised it the U said the cost of a new field is X amount, give us the X amount and we will use it to replace the field at a later date. JMO.

They'll go. In 2011 they added some temporary seats for the Nebraska game. If there is ever a need for extra seats they can set them up in a hurry.

I remember being disappointed when we announced building a 50K seat stadium and was hoping for something at least 60K or more. In retrospect, it was a good call to go with the current size. Most programs are having trouble filling their stadiums and I think this trend will continue. We'll look good to recruits playing in a full or near full stadium compared to one that is half empty.

Based on attendance numbers last season, the U was only able to sell more than 50,805 tickets once but still not hit a sell out in the temp configuration. Unless there is a magic run to an undefeated season this year (which probably wouldn't trickle into a sell out crowd until later in the season anyway), the U will most likely get rid of the bleachers.

The main argument is the stadium infrastructure was not designed to support that many more fans unless you expanded to a third deck to add concessions and bathrooms along with the seats. Even without the bleachers, the U got 51,000+ in for the last game at TCF against the badgers by selling a lot of SRO tickets. That sized crowd is more manageable than 55,000+ given the infrastructure.

According to today's Strib there are presently 52,525 seats at TCF.

The Gophers have fewer than 400 tickets remaining for the season opener against TCU, senior associate athletics director Chris Werle confirmed Thursday.

The team is closing on its first home sellout since the 2013 regular season finale against Wisconsin. The capacity at TCF Bank Stadium increased to 52,525 last season with the Vikings coming on as tenants. Last year's season-high attendance was 51,241 for Purdue.

ESPN also announced that Dave Pasch, Brian Griese and Tom Luginbill will be the broadcasting crew for the Gophers/TCU game.

I knew there was a reason that BTN considered this a classic game!

The U has an odd approach to increasing season ticket sales: by tripling the price! And now Kaler will drag out the AD search so that next year's big hikes proceed as planned. What happens, then, if the Gophers go no better than .500 this year?

Which seats are tripling in price?
