With the new rule that no big ten games can be night games in November, there's gonna be a huge backlog of 11 am games since the ABC 2:30 slot is protected. Basicially your only chance to not play at 11 am in November is to schedule a night non-conference game, or have a marquis matchup for the 2:30 slot. However even thats hard as OSU/PSU usually will not be overcome, just as Michigan/OSU will have top billing as well, though that game does get played at 11 am occasionally....

You might as well put the SDSU game down as an 11 am BTN kick as well. There is no way that won't be the truth when its announced next week.

I didn't know the big ten has a new rule about not playing night games in Novemeber. Why? Are they worried it gets dark too soon...

I think the decision was temperature driven. It's cold at night.

Granted, we're hardcore, never miss a game, crazy, no excuses, kids can't celebrate halloween fans. But seriously, it gets pretty Brad Chilly on November nights.

hahaha damn right, I want a tshirt describing me as such a fan.

I like the 11:00 games. No waiting. Plenty of time to do things afterward. Big advantage over teams from the West Coa.....

Rittenburg covered this in pretty good detail back in May. Here were the main things he highlighted about the policy:
  • This is not a new policy. It has been in place for quite some time and probably wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't affect what looks like the marquee conference game of the 2009 season. The Big Ten has no plans to revisit the policy, and any change likely wouldn't be made until the league renews its TV contract in the distant future.
  • Weather certainly is a factor, but it's not the only factor. The Big Ten is simply not a conference that traditionally plays games at night, and that tradition still matters. There's no Tiger Stadium At Night in the Big Ten. Rudner noted that the league still plays night games in September and October -- 14 in all -- and sees the value in doing so, but it doesn't lose much exposure because all of its games are nationally televised. He also really values the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff time, which has become the Big Ten's showcase game in recent years.
  • Night games present a logistical nightmare that most fans can't fully comprehend. From getting fans in and out of mammoth stadiums to policing the areas -- all in potentially lousy weather -- these events present some tough obstacles. Though many of the same challenges are present with September and October night games, the November weather compounds things.
  • Expect the Big Ten to start scheduling potential marquee games like Ohio State-Penn State in October, like last year's game (Oct. 25). The league schedule is set through 2012, but don't expect to see Ohio State-Penn State in November many more times beyond that point. End-of-season rivalry games like Ohio State-Michigan, Iowa-Minnesota and Purdue-Indiana won't move out of the noon ET or 3:30 p.m. ET time slots.

What would be nice to see in future TV contracts is the ability for the Big Ten Network to broadcast a 2:30 slot game. Maybe just in November. That would certainly open up the log jam a bit. It's got to be frustrating for the network to run four games at the same time. I know it is as a fan.

They can if they really want to but I'm not sure what the rules are for when its ok. Correct me if my memory is totally off, but the Wisky game to end the '07 season was a 2:30 kick on BTN.

Actually the 11 AM start for the SDSU game was announced awhile ago

I think that was because Michigan-Ohio State was on ABC at noon. I'm pretty sure they are not allowed to run games opposite the ABC 3:30 game. They really should get a November exception to this in the next contract. Having 5 games kick-off at the same time, with 3 of them ending up on BTN alternate channels is ridiculous and hardly the definition of 'every game is nationally televevised' since very few people outside of DirecTV customers actually get all of those feeds.

That sounds right. I thought there was a reason this didn't happen more often.

11 AM starts the rest of the way out should be a surprise to no one. The only game that MIGHT be a 2:30 start is @Iowa, and that's assuming A) Iowa is undefeated and B) Michigan-tOSU goes at 11:00, which is not a given.

I'm pretty sure those same problems can happen during day games as well. Believe it or not, lousy weather can happen during the day in November.

Why the hell do you care? This way, you'll have more time to totally dis all things Gopher/Tim Brewster on here before mother sends you to bed....

Someone caught feelings......LOL........

Calm down, have a Snickers! :D

While I agree with you completely, the B10's counter-argument would likely be "Yes but bad weather in the daytime doesn't have the added complication of darkness and the accompanying drop in temperature." I'm not a fan b/c I love night games, but ultimately I just shrug since I know its not changing anytime soon.
