Illinois defensive tackle Lere Oladipo was arrested early Sunday morning on preliminary charges of domestic battery, the Champaign News-Gazette reported.
Illinois released a statement Sunday afternoon saying Oladipo has been suspended indefinitely from the team.
The redshirt freshman from Huntley was arrested at 1:03 a.m. in a campus parking lot after a call to police indicated a woman was screaming and being pushed into a car by a man later identified as Oladipo, according to the report.
Oladipo was released on $1,000 bond, and his criminal arraignment will take place Monday, the report said.
“I am aware of an alleged incident involving Lere Oladipo early this morning,” Illinois coach Lovie Smith said in the team’s statement. “We will continue to follow DIA policy on reviewing and responding to such actions.”..
