Ignore names and faces and compare resumes

While a lot of people are upset with the Kill hire, compare his resume to the rest of the Tier B guys. If you ignore what they look like and you ignore their name, and look ONLY at their bodies of work, I think you guys will agree that Kill was one of the top Tier B candidates.

Maybe a less lazy person could put together a "Candidate A has done.... Candidate B has done.... Candidate C has done...." type thing.
