Trent Tucker, Flip or Bobby Knight. My pick is for Double T. I think he would be great and would also stick around for a long time.

Thoughts

Flip is a better coach then tubby, but we need tubby to build the program for about 3 more years before flip takes over.

Flip is a terrible basketball coach, so I hope he isn't seriously considered. He coached 1 very good team in MN, ran the Pistons into mediocrity, and has had an atrocious year with the Wizards. If Flip didn't go to the U, no one here would ever consider him even a decent hire.

LOL you clearly are just making statements without really knowing any facts.

Someone not currently on staff. Do what's best for the program long term, not short term.

It's fine if you don't want Flip to coach the Gophers, but you should at least give the him more credit than completely misrepresenting what he has accomplished. With Flip as their coach, the Pistons finished first in their division and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals three straight seasons -- all three in which he was their coach. His last year in Detroit the Pistons had the second best record in the NBA. I guess in your view that's "running a team into mediocrity," but that seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Somehow you give Flip credit for having "coached 1 very good team in MN" (good, presumably, because they reached the conference finals) but completely dismiss his Pistons track record despite finishing with a better regular season record and a better postseason record in 2 of his 3 seasons in Detroit than did the Timberwolves in the one "good" year you acknowledge.

Flip has been a highly successful basketball coach over a long period of time. He deserves better than to be ripped with false statements on his own alma mater's fan message board.

Ill take Brian Gregory please... Big Ten roots, Izzo disciple, runs a major program, recruits well and successful on the court.

I'm shocked more people wouldn't want to take a chance on Trent Tucker. Everyone just focused on how much they hate flip. I know TT has no coaching experiance, but it would make a lot of sense I think. He is a basketball Wiz, he is hanging in the rafters and the U loves him.

He should be hired as a #1 assistant. Tubby should hire him if Coach Taylor gets a head coaching job.

You are shocked that we wouldn't want to hire a guy with zero coaching or recruiting experience for a Big 10 head coaching job?

And how do we know that? because he does one on one workouts with high school players? because he talks hoops on KFAN? Because he is friends with Michael Jordan? because he used to broadcast TWolves games?

Im not saying that Double TT wouldnt make a good coach. But it is a very big risk to hire him at this level right now as a Assistant.

I admire Trent, but his lack of coaching experience frightens me and he seems unwilling to put in the time at a lower level to earn his opportunity.

I'm not that sure about Gregory. First of all, Dayton is not a "major" program. It is a mid-major.

Secondly, Gregory took over for Oliver Purnell who had taken Dayton to the post-season in five of the previous six years, including two NCAAs. Gregory took over with Oliver's recruits and went to the NCAA in his first year. Then, the next three years he went without post-season (including a 14-17 record in 2006) and was on the hotseat as recently as mid-season 2007-08. He got them into the NIT that year. Had them in the NCAA in 2009 (won a game). Then, massively underachived in the regular season this year. Dayton was the preseason pick to win the Atlantic Ten, was ranked 21st in the country to start the year, and ended up only 7th in the A-10 and obviously unranked with yet another NIT bid by year's end. There is some grumbling in Dayton about him right now.

Sorry, we can do better than Brian Gregory should we lose Tubby.

My thoughts? Pass on all three. We have a coach right now, and I feel pretty good about him being the coach here next year too.

If he decides to coach elsewhere, I hope the list to replace him doesn't include any of these three names.

1. Dave Bliss, formerly SMU, New Mexico & Baylor. Man of great character.

2. Todd Bozeman (Morgan State), proven winner (and crook).

3. Clyde Drexler, formerly Houston.

4. Billy Gillispie, formerly UTEP & Kentucky, sure to hit on Erin Andrews on air while taking a belt from his bottle.

5. Clem Haskins, 5-year ban is over.

6. Todd Lickliter, formerly Butler & Iowa.

7. Kevin Mackey, former crackhead and Mouse McFadden's head coach at Cleveland State.

8. Dan Monson, Long Beach State. Head coach with Big 10 coaching experience.

9. Suttons, Eddie or Sean, formerly Oklahoma State, now pill poppers.

Any one of these guys and the Gopher program is good to go.

How about my 94 year old Grandpa?

Well, Trent Tucker may have been a stretch. I was just trying to think of someone that would stay a long time and that the U loved. We wouldn't have to worry about "TT is going to - name any school". I do think that if Vince Taylor leaves,Tubs should think about bringing in TT.

Well then, Kevin McHale. He did such a good job with the Timberwolves. Plus, if they ever switch to a parquet floor, he'd know exactly how many screws would be needed to secure it.
