who would you like too see as a "M" hire if both were interested? Kevin McHale or Flip Saunders?
For what it is worth, everytime McHale took over as interm coach for the Woofies he did fairly well. I think both Trent Tucker and Jim Peterson would be great as top ass't coaches ( I believe Tucker now has a degree) Not a former Gopher, but papa was the Gopher coach would be Brian Dutcher, top ass't under former Mich coach Steve Fischer ( San Diego State) Of note, as McHale family has grown he has become more involved at the U attending many of the home games sitting behind the Gopher bench. He has also been showing up at the Gopher Golf Outings. This is certainly a stretch, especially where McHale is concerned. But it would certainly be considered a
"Tubby type" hire.
 



I don't think Tubby's gonna' bolt after this disappointing season, but if he does, here's who I would not want named as our next head coach. ... Flip Saunders or especially Kevin McHale
 

I like McHale....but I don't see him being to enthusiastic inside the house of some 17 year old primma donna, having to woo him. I think he'd rather jam a fork into his brain.
 


I like the McHale idea as well. The Bigs could use a little help.

But, Tubby isn't going anywhere IMO. Not sure anyone really wants him enough to pay him 2 Mill/year that he has here.

Maybe this was just one bad year - and it was a BAD one - the worst I can remember in terms of collapse from high to low. (Injuries and transfers aside.)

Time for Tubby to turn it around next year.
 

I think McHale would be a good coach, but I don't think he would have the interest or energy to recruit. Tucker ... one of my top five favorite Gophers of all time, but I'm not sure why his name keeps coming up. He has never coached anywhere.

I think Flip would be great. I know the concerns about him being an NBA guy. But I think he would be hard working as a recruiter, and he's coached at the U and had a son play there, so I'm confident he understands the differences in what an NBA player can do vs. a college player. That's probably a homer view, though, since I have nothing concrete to base any of that on.
 

My dream coaching team:

Jim Shikenjanksi and Ernest Nzigamasabo - drive those sportwriters wild. (heck, might be enough to get Sid to retire.)
 




Would McHale only coach home games then? I remember him bitching about travel and airplanes back when he was coaching the Wolves. Also not a thing you want to hear out of college coaches mouth, recruiting is a lot of travel.
 

I heard that Phil Jackson wanted this sort of arrangement with the Lakers as well - to coach only the home games - then Rambis was going to coach the road games. Maybe McHale could coach the home games for the Gophers and the Timberwolves and Rambis could coach the road games for both teams. We might still need someone to do the recruiting though. ;)

Let's just get a full staff of ex-T-Wolves coaches. We'll be unstopable. Flip, McHale, Sydney Lowe is available and can recruit ACC territory. Not sure where Casey is, but I'm sure the price is right. Sadly, Musselman is not available. Is Bill Blair still among us? Winning.

You're forgetting Randy Wittman. He could lock up Indiana for us.
 




Tubby/Flip

The position at NC state is perfect fit(closer to home) Flip is already sniffing around(does need the money / is in bad situation in Washington) Flip will bring son and Don Zierden. McHale can coach some/ can't judge talent(Ebi/Will Avorey etc.etc.etc./KG/Love only 2 in all those years!
