We would have:

1 real point guard who doesnt have average athleticism is Mav.
2 athletic 2 guards, who cannot shoot? Chip, Andre Hollins
3 athletic small forwards who cannot shoot in Rodney, Austin, and Coleman
1 6'11" guy with perimeter skills: Sampson
3 post players with no perimeter skills: Colt, Eliason, and Mo
1 tweener in Otto with perimeter skills who hasn't played a minute yet.

Trevor's phenomenal rebounding is the one thing that stops teams from zoning us, he is too hard to box out man to man and impossible with the zone. Next year teams could rally zone us with no outside shooters and without trevor's rebounding.

**Besides the point guard situation I think the next big determining factor for next year is Otto. How good of a shooter, defender, and rebounder is this guy?

Andre can shoot, check out some of his highlights they are mostly him shooting.

I think Trevor is the only returning player who retains his starting spot IF he returns.

Maybe Rodney, maybe not. But the C position is WIDE open. Any of the 4 C could start.

And (of course) both G positions are even WIDER open. ANDRE Hollins has an edge on 1 of the 2 spots.

I don't think that's a true reflection of next years team. It may be a worst case scenario.

Personally I believe next years team will be a much better shooting team than this year. Reports are that Andre can shoot. Elliason certainly appears to be a better shooter than Iverson and actually I think even Iverson is a better shooter than the 2010-2011 version of Iverson. Mo is a good shooter who shows range- maybe better than Sampson. Oto is reputed to be a shooter. Some of the guys will improve and we still have two recruits to sign. We will have size, more options at guard, more guards to press with if needed and better shooting. We should be fine, even if Trevor is gone. Really good if he is back.

I think your assessment is way off...we saw big improvement by Blake and Al from Soph to Junior years and I think we will see the same with Rodney...he has played well the last 5 games and I am confident he will grow a bunch before next year. RSIII and Colt may not get much better, but Mo was cleary our best true center before he got hurt and will push for time next year and Oto and Austin can shoot according to those that have seen them...plus we are still in the mix for an athletic scoring PG who would take some pressure off Mav.

This team has some upside next year...time will tell...but taking the hater/downer approach probably wont make the offseason go any faster or better....

Andre Hollins is supposed to be an excellent shooter, in fact, that was the reason for his early recruiting interest. Coleman has a decent mid-range jumper, I wouldn't say he can't shoot at all. Julian Welch is a shooter. Tubby said Oto is the best shooter in practice. Even Mo Walker has shown some range.

This team, on paper, should be a much better jump shooting team next year . It would hard to be any worse.

My feeling is that this year is like 2003/2004 only not as bad, and and hope that next year is like 2004/2005 only better.

So he didn't put up any of his shots airballing or clanking in his highlight reel? Weird.

Thats cute, however i was implying that generally people who are good shooters their videos are mostly of them shooting. Did you see Rodney take jumpers in his highlight videos? Didnt think so

Nice negativism. Why not say..."Even if Trevor is gone, how good is next year's team."

Pessimism "pesses" me off.

On the FSN Tubby show last week Tubby did a free throw bit with Oto. He told Oto to not use his legs at all and shoot a free throw. The point was to show how relaxed, flexed knees help with the shot. Oto just flipped one up with his wrists as smooth as silk and swished one. Tubby just said, "not bad, not bad... now lets try one with the knee flex..."

Not bad? Heck, it was perfect.

Oto then swished another with the knee flex. He looked like a shooter.

:clap::clap:

From a pure W/L perspective...doesn't seem that Trevor's loss will make next year worse. He obviously is a great player and hopefully sticks around...but the other key pieces are what we need..and that really is the guards..

Last year at this time, we had Blake, Westbrook and Joseph. Put Westbrook and Joseph on this team down the stretch and I think we are comfortably in the tourney and talking about seeding..versus talking about next year.

What I'm implying is judging whether or not a kid is going to come into a high major program as a freshman and start/contribute mightily based on a highlight reel is..........cute. Again, expectations placed on these kids by a bunch of people who in large part HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM PLAY gets us situations like RW. Completely unrealisitic. Now RW is a failure in so many people's eyes because he didn't live up to the hype? How about the hype was ridiculous in the first place?

I will give my opinion on a lot of these kids based on what I've actually seen them do in person. So many on this board give opinions based on what they've read on other blogs or what they've seen on a highlight. If I want lazy journalism, I'd read Myron's twitter account.

I say let's have Andre come in next year without the hopes of the entire state of Mn on his back just in case he doesn't live up to the hype or his highlight film.

we will be a solid team next year. you need to get over "the sky is falling" attitude. you already have decided to trash our incoming freshman and the rest of our roster for next season, might as well not watch!

i think we will be better next year than this year. the big ten is losing quite a few seniors. i think andre hollins will be a legit player next year and i think we have a nice group of bigs. rodney is gettting to be a better ball handler and shooter and its showing in the end of the season. i think he has his breakout season next year. mav and chip gave a lot of hope that they can continue to improve and contribute-yes there were some moments of shaking my head at them but they will be solid next season.

i think the future is bright and im excited for next season with or without trevor(praying that he is back)

Agree Doc.

I was tempted to just say they'll be so bad that Williams Arena will spontaneously combust the moment they take the floor.....

I might be in the minority here, but I disagree with your statement about Mav having less than average athleticism. He seems to have a knack for the ball on defense and made a few nice steals the past few games. I think there's some potential there.

I'm not saying he's the answer next year, but I think he could be a solid contributor from here on out.
