If this search goes much longer, I'd sooner Teague pick some random, little known, assistant coach and give him his first opportunity and hope for the best.

If we are at the Fred Hoiberg level who will opt for the NBA in a couple years, let's just admit defeat in landing a experienced coach and try and catch lightning in a bottle with some assistant somewhere.

I heard from a source that the job is Phil Jackson's if he accepts.

It's been 2.5/3 days....its not like they've been searching for a month and been turned down by their top 10 candidates. I trust woody and Ellis is make a good hire. They had the balls to step up and fire Tubby so I trust em.

That's sure going make the fan base happy.

I agree with this. I don't think Hoiberg is much of an upgrade over Tubby, and I think at that point, might as well take a big swing. You don't fire a good coach with a mediocre track record at your program for an unproven coach with a mediocre track record at a similar program. I've got a bad feeling about how this is going.

People are not concerned because it's been three days without a hire. People are concerned because of the perception (accurate or not), that the job has been offered to multiple candidates who have turned it down, and that Teague is having to dig further and further down in the barrel.

That's all speculation. Deep breaths. Let the process play out.

Again, the needs of the Instant Gratification Crowd...

If we find out all along it was Buzz and were just waiting for him to lose...well, I'll be happy, but look back at all the posting here and wonder where my week went!

Awful thread. Wait to post this until it's been 3+ weeks, not 3 days.

The media is scrambling for information and throwing things against the wall hoping they'll stick.

Rubes are scrambling for the same and no one knows. Trolls are circling.

We don't know who Norwood has targeted or if they have rejected or accepted. He's doing a good job of keeping the lid tight.

I'm hitting the refresh button too...enjoying the ride. No reason not to trust Norwood at his point.

Tubby is a nice guy but demonstrated that he is not a great coach. It is well chronicled that his half court offense was bad, his in-bounds plays were dreadful, he could not figure out how to beat a 1-3-1 zone at Northwestern, he did not recruit the players he needed, i.e. a point guard who would allow his best shooter to play the 2, he recruited too many players who were good in transition but could not play well in the half court, he alienated very good players who left the program, his players repeatedly doubled down the low-post player leaving 3 point shooters open looks time and time again. It should not be so difficult to find a coach who can do those fundamental things. If this years team had been coached to do those things he would still be here. Finding a big name would be great but much like the Gopher football team the basketball program will likely have to settle for a relatively unknown who has demonstrated the ability to coach the fundamentals at a mid-major school.

wtf is this thread about...I just hired an asst that makes $33k per year and it took me 3 weeks and i interviewed 12 people, 4 seconds and then made an offer. This is for a job worth to oversee a $20 mil profit center for the U...think a week is too long?

I personally think some of our best options are still in the NCAA/NIT and can't even be spoken too...plus, I think the Shaka Smart offer was a smoke screen. Teague helping is pal get a 10 year contract with an increased recruiting budget and practice facility enhancements...we should all have Teague as an old friend.

In the end, we have 3 or 4 quality and proven head coaches, a couple of up and coming asst coaches, an NBA coach and the guy in FL with the hot asswife and most we can talk too until their team loses. We should a few more to speak with after this weekend (maybe all). And I would suspect that the hire will happen sometime next week and it will be one of the people on the short list.
