Cheer for Auburn and Oregon to win out. If TCU or Boise is playing for a national title, it rules them out as a candidate.

Well then the Gophers would have to wait until after the sec championship game 12/04 for the final standings.

The gophers will announce their coach on December 6th, 2010. If they announce sooner, it means they are hiring someone not currently coaching anywhere.

okay did not know that.

Well, it is not official. But it is pretty logical. Conferences like the Pac Ten still have games being played during conference title weekend. They won't "steal" a coach until after said coaches regular season is done.

I thought about this today too. There would be nothing that could happen to help convince Patterson or Petersen to change jobs than going undefeated this season and not having a shot at the national title. It makes sense.

That's not true necessarily. While, in general, I think you're correct, they could announce any of these current coaches prior to December 6th:

Troy Calhoun (last Air Force game Nov. 18)
Brody Hoke (last SDSU game Nov. 27)
Mark Richt (UGA last game Nov. 27)
Dan Mullen (MSU last game Nov. 27)
Jeff Tedford (Cal last game Nov. 27)
Randy Shannon (MIA last game Nov. 27)

There are others who will be wrapped up by then, too (with possibility that Sumlin/Golden/Kill and others could be, too).

That said, I think you are likely right. I would say we'll name a new coach the week of December 6th-10th.

We need to take Richt off our wish list

I think Richt has done enough at this point in the season to save his job. They are certainly down by Georgia standards, but they'll do enough to save his job.

But they could agree to part ways, Remember, Tubby wasn't fired.
