would people be happy with Willie Martinez as the DC? He has some some ties to the big ten area and has alot of DC experience. I think you could see someone from the OU staff hired by Sumlin, I would mention the QB from SD currently on the OU staff but I'm not sure he would come.

If Sumlin is hired I will be fine with that. He is not my first choice but I feel that most people on these boards are unrealistic in their demands. The big 3 are not an option, Belloti just took his name out and Leach is not being considered. So what is Maturi to do? My first realistic choice is Calhoun and I am holding out for him

I agree, would love Calhoun

and have DeRuyter follow him here. DeRuyter's defense is fun to watch even though A&M hasn't had the most success this year.

If Sumlin were hired:

Becky would cheer
Hogeyes would cheer
University of Houston would shrug their shoulders
Gophers would once again start counting the years when a real Athletic Director would choose the next football coach.

-Will the University of Houston even be bowl eligible this year?

I don't think anyone is going to be hired who instantly scares the BigTen, there are really only 3 names that would make them look twice and they are Harbaugh, Bellotti and Patterson anyone else and they say ho hum its the goofers. Whoever the coach is is going to have to come in and earn bigten respect, just the way it is.

Sumlin with his existing staff = mildly acceptable.

Sumlin on the condition (and with the budget) that he hire an outstaning defensive staff = meeting or exceeding (my) expectations.

Re: We gave the wrong guy the raise Reply

"if CKS leaves"?

He's about to be 5-7. How does some AD explain hiring him to the alums at another school.

I didn't think he was leaving anyway, but I surely don't think so under the current circumstances.

The above quote is off the University of Houston message board. They are lamenting the fact that CKS (Sumlin) is not leaving. The most telling part is "He's about to be 5-7. How does some AD explain hiring him to the alums at another school."

Welcome to Minnesota. This guy gives our Athletic Director too much credit. Maturi is on the verge of blowing it again.

I can understand being kind of "meh" on Sumlin but I really don't get the disdain for the idea. The guy has done a good job every single place he has been, and has done nothing but get promoted by every coach that he has worked with (Bob Stoops and RC Slocum).

I entirely understand if you wouldn't be super enthusiastic about the hiring, but I can't see how there are many difference between his resume and Brady Hoke's or Troy Calhoun's.
