He was talking about big money available. He said Mullen willing to come for right price. How many times did we hear, "I keep Hoke, Calhoun, Mullen, Edsall, and Sumlin"?

I wouldn't be worried about Doogie I'd be worried about Maturi

Who cares about Doogie? If not for trolling Gopherhole for hot leads that guy would be the most irrelevant person in the Twin Cities media.

That's not fair. He has said over and over again he is tweeting what he's been told.

I don't think anybody could have predicted Kill at the beginning - if indeed he is our coach.

You need to shut your mouth! You can play gotcha with any columnist, I have no doubt Doogie is reporting in good faith.

I like Doogie too, but he deserves a little shot.

Doogie's a good dude but I don't think he has any more inroads into the program than any of us do at this point.

How many? Not entirely sure... working on that... but a few... Kill was not seriously in the mix initially... have that from a few people.

If you want to wrap your arms around a Kill hire, which I have not confirmed by the way, go for it... just telling you on good authority: if Kill or Chryst is the hire, they swung and missed at least a few times.

I certainly want to wrap my hands around someone if it's a Kill hire.

As for Mullen never being offered, when did I ever report that he was? I said that he had sent out feelers that he was willing to come for a package totaling $25 mil. over 5-years... to put that in perspective, Clemson, who spends a bleep-load on football, pays its entire staff just over $4 mil. As for the Hoke news, MV may be right on... again, if Kill or Chryst is the hire, a few turned them down.

If you consider talking to coaches who are close to those on the "U" staff... at least one agent... and someone else very much in the know as not having inroads, so be it... not much else I can do to change your mind.
Was taught in '99 at the "U" by the great Paul McEnroe, and by the great Chris Ison, to always be aggressive... cultivate sources, etc. It's good and bad that in this market, at least on the electronic side, many work a different way. In other words, you may be used to getting little info. Combining my passion for Gophers sports, with my "A" job, and I took an aggressive approach to this story.
14-years working in town, I have gotten to know a few people. Working with a Hartman for most of those years was great for many reasons, including getting to know a ton of people.

Sorry, yo. That wasn't directed at you. Saw it and figured we had enough threads and it was topically relevant here, so I posted it.

no need to apologize Doogie, clearly if we hire Kill we took the shots you were mentioning, we just missed.

my problem comes with the administration, when you get turned down enough at some point to just say "F it, we need to talk with Leach now". That point for me would have come a handful of people prior to Kill.

...and yet, you're off base 95% of the time. You may work hard and be a good dude, but you aren't any sort of expert, no more than anyone else in here is.

95% of the time? Examples?

Doogie, have you heard anything about Edsall waffling last minute after his Big East win? I may have been way off base, but I don't think so...I had Edsall being the guy on Friday and now it seems he's not. Nobody is talking on this coast...except to say he is not in the Miami mix or the Vandy mix.

Just wondering if you heard anything....

GopherinPhilly: I have heard nothing on Edsall, outside of talking w/ his agent, Gary O'Hagan, last night, who offered a "(pause) no comment."

Thanks Doogie...wonder what post-kill hire stories we will hear...maybe Edsall was the one the got away..."almost in the boat" so to speak.

I really doubt that Kill was...

the "I can't believe he's interested." guy. No way, no how. As of right now, I am praying that Kill/Chryst is the final smokescreen. I may be wrong, but I just don't like this hire. Not with some of the others who may or may not been out there. I hope I'm wrong, and will be front and center, if I am.

Gotta agree on this one. For whatever reason, Maturi probably did swing and miss on a few. Gotta accept that MN is not considered a great opportunity, even with a lot of cash. Hope the new Pres and AD can turn that around.

Don't mean to be insulting by this, but I made a pledge and I intend to stand by it...I was not thrilled by some of the names brought out and was thrilled at the thought of others. Problem is this hire seems kinda less then the names I was not thrilled about.

Kill already is in a position of negative fan approval and it is not even official he is the new coach.
