If Brew can keep Seantrel at home, he should get extension

If I were Maturi, I'd tell Brew that if you can land Seantrel Henderson, we'll extend you. That way Brew can assure Seantrel that he'll be signed as coach for Seantrel's tenure.

It might be too late for that. Maturi's not a decisive guy and he needs to go.

As a fan, I'd be ok with that

Oh man, that sounds fine and good, but telling someone that there contract depends on the whims of a 17-18 year old does not seem fair to me. However, if Henderson does sign with us, it certainly makes Brew's case for a contract significantly stronger. Maturi's in a tough spot. He has a coach who hasn't proven much in three years othat than that he can recruit.

This is some pretty crazy talk. Give Brewster an extension for landing one player? Um, okay.

agreed. if there is anyone in the athletics office who actually needs to go it is "golly, gee whiz i can't make a strategic decision to save my life" joel maturi. i truly hope pres. bob bruininks does not give joel maturi the credit for the tubby smith hire. that was a gift that fell perfectly into maturi's lap if there ever was one.

man, what i wouldn't give to actually have a school president and an AD who actually know how to run an athletics office and truly support their top revenue programs (football and basketball). can't believe i am sounding like wren! ;)

if the tubby smith "gift" is what is keeping joel maturi employed as the AD then unfortunatley we might be stuck with joel for a while. to me that is the truly sad part of this whole story.

I think even some of Brewster's biggest detractors have said that he should not be blamed if Seantrel goes elsewhere. Even as a great recruiter, he still can't compete (nor can most schools) with the USC/Florida/Oklahoma/etc.'s of the world. He's going to have to earn his extension on the field next year.

Also I'm sure there'd be some sort of NCAA violations involved if he whispered in Seantrel's ear that him staying home would guarantee an extension. There's no way you can tell a recruit "look, if I sign you, I can guarantee I'll be around for your four years".

Wins, not recruiting rankings, must be the basis for an extension. And that is what Maturi is waiting on.

An ISU W will go a long way in settling the dust during the offseason. Another L and Maturi will be backpeddling and put-foot-in-mouth defending his choice, which is something he is not good at. He is not capable of making blunt statements like "Tim Brewster is our coach. End of discussion." Maturi spots a microphone and he gets giddy and starts babbling. I have said all along, Bruininks needs to place a gag order on him.

Maturi, Bruininks and especially Brewster are the ones who have stirred the pot with high expectations and excessive and premature talk of Rose Bowls and Big Ten and even a National Championship with no timetable. I am all for higher expectations but, lets be reasonable here. People are not buying into Brewster's confidence and fuzzy statements. Being patient is difficult for the majority especially with the product we have seen. The media has an easy target and story and they are going for it.

Seantrel is not coming to MN. Even if Brewster had a ten year contract Seantrel is not coming! It's not going to happen. Even though Brewster said he had a good visit at Seantral's house, what is Brewster suppose to say? It's not going to happen!

Agree completely. The recruiting of one kid should have no impact a coaches tenure. If that happened one would have to question the administrations policies.

Extension has to be based on seeing overall improvement. The defense has improved. The offense was so bad that it negated the defensive improvements. I hope we start seeing some of the same improvements on the offensive side of the ball that carries over to next year.

one player is never bigger than a program, and cannot single-handedly consistently win games...so this may be one of the dumbest ideas i've heard of.

i've got an idea, why don't we give brewster an extension if he proves he can coach? that's a novel idea - that would mean, he does not get one as of now.

for as big of an idiot i think brew is, he should not be blamed for not landing seantrel (the kid's good, he deserves a top tier football program), that is, unless he ends up at iowa. if that's the case, blame away.
