Idiot of the day - Texas

I saw that happen in a high school game I was reffing, many many years ago.

I could swear that this blunder happened to the Vikings once under Denny Green, as well. There doesn't seem to be any question about what you should choose. Maybe back in the 1940's you would actually consider choosing an end to defend based on the weather conditions or wind, or if you had a dominant defense you thought could stop your opponent deep in their end after the opening kickoff. But in the game as it's played today, you choose the ball (either the opening kick or defer to receive in the second half). Major boneheaded play.

Considering Texas' offense has been just about as bad as ours, maybe it was planned because they felt their best way to score was on defense?
