I realize that Santa Clara and the other squads listed play in much smaller conferences than the Big Ten, but I'd like to see the Gophers get in contact with the likes of Iowa State, Marquette, Xavier, etc. for something along these same lines (from Jeff Goodman's blog at foxsports):

KEATING, SANTA CLARA START OWN TOURNEY

After Santa Clara coach Kerry Keating’s recent experience in which he and Arizona had to travel all the way to Athens, Ga., to play in a loser’s bracket Preseason NIT contest, Keating decided to take matters into his own hands.

He’s gotten five west coast teams (Santa Clara, Fresno State, Pacific, San Diego State, Northern Arizona) from different leagues together and will start a tournament next season in which all five will play one another and each will have two home games.

Didn't we pretty much do that this year with the NABC?? Only difference being we played all home games and only included 4 teams?

The only thing I see as being similar is that Concordia and Bowling Green are in the same region. I was thinking more along the lines of playing teams from major conferences or strong mid-majors, such as the ones I listed (Iowa State, Xavier, Marquette, Mizzou, etc.) and if the Gophers and said teams were to rotate the home games, it would not put anyone at a disadvantage.

I like that idea -- we really need to upgrade our schedule in the worst way.
