What an abysmal performance (again) by the Gophers. Is Al Nolen really the only guy on the team capable of playing good perimeter defense? How about the bigs? How about Colton and especially Ralph losing battles to 6'6 mid major post players? Thank god for Chip Armelin tonight, without a couple of his plays in the 2nd half the Gophers lose a 2nd straight home game to a bad team.

This team looked like it has so much potential in San Juan and it has looked flat out terrible since its return home. The turnaround has to start on the defensive end, but the bigs have to take advantage of their size on offense.

It's been an ugly 1.5 games, but don't make the mistake of thinking that teams 10-25 don't all have stretches like that. Certainly we will drop from 13, but we should still be ranked. Florida is right behind us and they got beat by UCF this week, for example.

We won right?

All teams have bumps in the road. We lost our point guard for goodness sakes.

Not every team is going to rely on the 3 to win games (think Big Ten!). We'll be fine...

Virginia was a buzzsaw, nobody without a shutdown perimeter D was going to stop that. 95% of teams with an open floor would not make those shots. We will get better. I'm starting to think the BT might almost be easier than the sharp-shooting OOC games....

Not a rip on you EG...But, I hear the 'we're not a top 25' and 'we're not an NCAA team' comment from people almost every time we lose a game. These are usually folks who don't watch any other college basketball. So they ignorantly think there are surely 25 or 65 teams who must be much better then the terrible Gophers! Afterall, they lost! There are about 8 teams that will play consistently well for almost every game this year (Duke, MSU, etc.) everyone below that will have ugly games like our last two.

Will every team hit that many three's against us? No. Will we always be a terrible FT shooting team? That is the big worry. Got to hit those if you want to have a special season.

Will we always be a terrible FT shooting team?

This is by far the biggest problem with the team right now. You can't get 30 more FT attempts than the other team and win by 5. It gets a W against Cornell, but that's not going to roll in the post-season.

Right, even the gods of #11 ranked Kentucky lost to a not-ranked North Carolina team today. Let's panic and have some beer. :drink: :drink: :drink:

The Transitive Property of Basketball says... Gophers beat UNC. UNC beat KY. So Gophers will beat KY.

You seemed to hit your FTs in the second half though.
(Cornellian here. We average 20 fouls a game, causing fans much ire. Had yall not started hitting your FTs at the end .... sigh. Oh well.)

I don't mind criticism. I just think that I could not vote for the Gophers in the top 25 after what I saw today. After suffering a terrible home loss due to an inability to defend perimeter jumpers and shoot free throws, the Gophers come out an almost suffer a 2nd straight terrible home loss due to an inability to defend perimeter jumpers and shoot free throws.

That's not to say the Gophers don't have the ability to be a top 25 team, just that they are not playing like it right now. I don't like our offense or our defense right now.

+ 1

To those that wouldn't vote for us in top 25..that's fine but u cannot make that statement in a vacuum. Who are the other 25 teams you have watched that merit a better ranking?

Precisely why they don't let fans vote...At the beginning of the year most objective people had us finishing between 3-6 in the Big Ten. That's probably where we are, and we're seeing why. If we were flawless we'd win the title. You can't make predictions and then get down on the team when the season actually plays out. We've won one game we thought we'd lose and lost one game we thought we'd win. If you want to give up on the team, fine...just leave
