Joe Tiller was at Purdue for 12 years and Kirk Ferentz has been at Iowa for 12 years. They have identical 53-43 Big Ten records. Overall, Ferentz has 89 wins to Tiller's 87.

Ferentz has 2 BCS appearances and 4 JAN. 1 Bowl games.

Tiller had 3 JAN. 1 appearances including 1 Rose Bowl. (Tiller never won 10 games in a season)

A .552 win percentage over 12 years would get us to this level. I know Kill has not coached a game in MN, but I believe this can be done.

Agree 100%...great post. I'm taken aback some by those numbers--they seem pedestrian at first glance for two coaches whom many would consider to be amongst the top 3 or 4 in terms of Big Ten success over the past twenty years or so. That's really interesting!

That computes to 4.4 BT wins a season which demonstrates how difficult it is to average 5 BT wins a season over a ten year or twelve year period. I think JoPa has done it as well (barely) as Alvarez along with Michigan and of course, OSU.

Alvarez was 65-60-3 in 16 Big Ten seasons. That is 4.06 wins/season.

Alvarez = .508% in all Big Ten games (48-45 = .516% after first 12 years)
Ferentz = .552% in Big Ten games
Tiller = .552% in Big Ten Games

Interestingly, both Ferentz and Alvarez began their Big Ten careers with 0-8 seasons in year one. Tiller was 6-2 in his first year.
