I would have guessed RichRod liked Buble, but he's a Groban man

RichRod cried during the annual football banquet Thursday, dealing with emotion of possibly never getting to address his entire team in a similar manner again. How did he deal with that emotion? He wept with his arms in the air to the sweet crooning of Josh Groban.

Of course he did.

Here's the story from the AP and later Deadspin:

Rodriguez wiped sweat off his brow early and often during the 3-hour event. "This hot-seat stuff is not very much fun," he quipped. Then, he got serious with a prepared speech.

He cited Hebrews, talking about the faith he had in program's direction, and talked about how Groban's "You Raise Me Up," inspires him before having it played. Rodriguez, his wife, Rita, Brandon and players stood on risers with their hands held above their heads as the song blared in the ballroom.
Here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_l_A6-7td0&feature=player_embedded

It's too bad we're at Michigan next year, but some sound guy HAS to play this when Michigan takes the field don't they? Or at least during warm-ups? That would be hilarious.

I got this report secondhand by a um'er who attended:

"I was there. I would have been more comfortable had I walked in on my grandparents humping. I'm really still dumbfounded. It was a tough morning getting ready for work with my jaw hanging on the ground.

One clarification - and not that this makes anything much better - but the arm raising came at the end of the song. Which was still a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#chill moment. But they weren't waving their arms during the song. RichRod kinda grabbed Rita and Beckman and raised the arms and then the players, awkwardly, followed. Again, it's still highly embarrassing, but I thought I'd clear that up.

I don't know what to make of the night. He's clearly a lost individual right now. A lot of clamoring, and almost, begging to stay. It was way over the top, obviously. I have to agree with whoever wrote above that he might be trying to get fired. Either that, or he's way out of touch with what a Football Bust is all about. There have been some real touching moments over the years with the Senior speeches. Guys talking about coming out of bad situations and finding guidance from the coaches, etc. I'm sure it happens at every end of the year gathering across the country. But this was so crafted and forced.

Again, I'm dumbfounded. I've spoken with Brandon several times. He's a straight forward guy who, I hope, won't be impressed by the circus last night. Who knows though. Maybe he told RR to go out and show some emotion. I'm lost."

Yeah, when I think of football and music, Josh Groban immediately comes to mind. Is Dickrod trying to get himself fired so he gets the full buyout???

Per MV, Groban has mad twitter skills:

"joshgroban: Coach Rodriguez, I'm very flattered but crying to You Raise Me Up is SO five years ago. #playwelcometothejungle"

I'd always assumed a guy named DickRod would have Bieber Fever.

TooLong - that's fantastic.

For the record, I'm not so sure Michigan should cut ties with RichRod. I would give him another year to see what they have. They should be tough next year.

Sadly, I think we're going to have more competition for a HC. It's a bad sign when the slappies in the Detroit media are calling for your head. I love teh crack on this being like an "Up with People concert"

If Hoke is our man, we'd better lock him up fast. Otherwise he's going to be throwing his hat in this ring, too. Even if it is Harbaugh's job to lose. Either Dickrod is having a nervous breakdown, or he's trying to get fired. Maybe both.

I swear RichRod wants to be fired. What could he possibly be thinking? And why does it make me so happy that he's a mess?
