Week 3 of this experiment. Nice win by the good guys yesterday.

Complete the sentence below. The only rule is that it has to be something positive about the team/program/player.

I was happy with...

The LB corps, and Lee Campbell in particular. Cooper came in and played great too.

Cooper. Big time. I think he will end up being quite a stud.

Derrick Onwuachi in the 3rd quarter. I found myself watching him more than the play itself for a drive or two.

Traye Simmons. He did NOT inexplicably drop the ball while running back a blocked field goal attempt at home against Purdue!!!!! (See: Jamal Harris, 2007)

Oh mannnnn, Jamal Harris....glad the guy wearing #15 now can hang on!

I was happy with......

The running game--establishing it, sticking with it, and continuing to execute. And, on one very noticeable occasion, using it to set up a big pass play.

Brandon Kirksey. Dude is a developing stud and probably our best DT already.

Handily beating a team we should have beaten. It should give the team some confidence heading a couple tough games on the road. The running game looked good and I was happy to see Gray finally get the chance to throw the ball.

I was happy with the game plan. Running the ball until they took it away, which they never did. Balance is good but not for the sake of balance. I thought it was a great coaching job, showed some good growth in the coaching staff.

I was happy about this:

From the PP article about whaley:

Jacobs had three tackles, including one of the team's three sacks, and 2 1/2 tackles for a loss.

Whaley!

Also nice to see BPT actually make a BP. Nystrom, I also had flashbacks for Harris dropping the ball on the blocked kick return.

Staying motivated

I was impressed with how the team responded to a slow start. Too many Gophers teams in the past would have folded after falling behind 10 to zero. The Gophers this year may not be a team of destiny but at least they never give up and keep on trucking which is more I can say for some better Mason teams of the past.

3 things i was happy with was

1. BPT
2. BPT
3. BPT

Whaley. I think that kid is a stud in the making. We will be dangerous if we can have the run game working like it did against purdue and keep up the Weber-to-Decker connection. That 48 yard pass to Decker was a direct result of the run game. We play actioned and the safety bit hard. Nice to see.
