While the most important game is the BT Championship game, the 2v2, 3v3 is an interesting and creative solution to bring in the 9th game. There may be a bowl game or two implication on the line for teams around .500 and the two last place teams will have pride on the line.

• For the weekend of December 19, it will be the Big Ten Championship Game on 12/19 in Indianapolis. Also, that weekend will also match the #2 team in the West with the #2 team in the East, etc. for a 9th game!

Also, what this means to me is that if Michigan isn't on the schedule initially, we may still have a chance to play them! Obviously it'd be the best in the 1v1 spot, and I certainly take winning the West over playing for the Jug, but if we get a 2v2 game vs Michigan as a consolation I won't complain.

In a normal year they can’t do it, because only the championship game is exempt from the rule that a max of 12 games are allowed.

Since 12 teams = 6 games will be outside the championship this year, it should be even number of host sites West/East.

Thiugh clearly weather “should” be a factor, the weekend before Xmas could be pretty bad in Mpls.

If we do this next year I hope it's by choice and not by necessity like it is this year. Though, I do think it could give us an advantage moving forward in terms of the CFB rankings. While there is potential for a highly ranked team to blow it and drop in the final rankings, there is also potential for a middle ranked team to demolish a low or unranked team, or play a close game vs a highly ranked team and get a boost. Could mean more B1G teams in the NY6 non-playoff bowls.

Should the 2021 and onward seasons stay as scheduled we don't play Michigan in the regular season again until 2023.

It will be interesting what games are scheduled though. I would think they may try to keep the cross over games pretty much as they were supposed to be for the original 2020 season and just drop one. In which case, we may still get to play Michigan this season regardless.

That could only work if everyone plays only 11 regular season games and then the champ/challenge week is the 12th. Or if the rules were updated to let every team play a 13th game on champ week.

I think this could be really nice. It definitely could revive a lot of rivalries that were broken due to conference changes and whatnot. It would depend on the stipulations though, is it literally "You can play a 13th game vs anyone, in conference or not"? Is it "You can play a 13th game, but it must be in-conference"? Does it or does it not have an effect on your CFP ranking? Lots of questions, but I think they could all be addressed.

I think your idea would work better if the BT grabbed two more teams and went to four divisions of four teams. Could play your 3, then play all 4 from another div, rotating every three years, then play the same ranked team from the other two divs. The 10th game could be a “long term matchup” against a team outside your division, either a rivalry or whatever.

I said all teams in a division, so you missed Penn St as the 10th game, in that particular year.

Noting that Iowa would want to play Minn and Iowa St every year (and likely would be grateful to rid themselves of Wisconsin every year), the first two divisions would work better as:
Neb, Iowa, Iowa St, Minn
Wisc, NW, Illinois, Purdue

Then Wisc would be our “long term matchup” (that would never change in our case). Most teams won’t have such an obvious rival for that 10th game. Really the axe and Indy/Purdue. I’d probably start out with Iowa/NW, ISU/Ill, Neb/*, Mich/Rut, PSU/MSU, OSU/Mary.

My perfect team for * would be Pitt. ACC would happily backfill with Notre Dane as a full member.
