If Kill leaves today, he will likely bring those 7 or 8 coaches on his staff that have been with him for awhile. That would be absolutely DEVASTATING to NIU in their bowl game. NIU's AD has said he hasn't named an interim coach because he doesn't know who is staying. I do want Kill to hit the recruiting trail, but maybe he could take a few of his coaches on the recruiting trail while leaving some behind to take care of NIU's practices. Then, Kill and his staff could coach the bowl game and head to Minnesota.

I know this sounds dumb, and this is just my softer side speaking, but if Kill takes his coaches with him, NIU is in big trouble for their bowl game.

Maybe this is my stoic side speaking, but I would rather have them hitting the ground tomorrow. We hired him and if we are going to hire his assistants (I hope he takes a good number of them) I want them here ASAP.

Bowl games have never been as important to me as the rest of the season. Maybe it's because we are always in mediocre (or no) bowls, but I hardly care about them.

By the way, nothing wrong with feeling bad about that.

I hear you, I just feel bad for NIU. Does anyone know if Minnesota is holding offseason practices right now or what the schedule is like? When does offseason end, after Spring semester maybe?

I'm interested in the best interests of the Gophers. If it is best for us to bring his whole staff over now, then do it.

I would expect the remaining staff led by Tracey Cleays to coach NIU. They are a highly experienced bunch. Coach Kill can get started here ASAP and hit the road visiting our verbals and getting familiar with Minnesota.

Their bowl game is in two weeks - even if he takes a couple of assistants with him now, they'll still be fine. It would be one thing with 4 weeks of practice - not as much with two weeks. They basically have a bye week this week followed by their last game of the season - one week after the Army/Navy game. They won't be decimated if some of the staff leaves now...and the Gophers certainly won't be crippled if they don't have all of the staff in place in the next two weeks.
