In reading all of the various threads on both the BB Forum and the FB forum, why do so many of the GopherHole posters have solutions to all problems? Open forum here:

because were fans of the gophers, hence were smart, and some of us are doctors...;)

What do you expect - we went to the U. Duh!

It is a message board. I for one come here for opinion, perspectives and information. Imagine, for example, if someone posted on the boards over 4,000 times with over half of the references related to something like drinking beer. Oh, wait.....

Many of us do. Not all of us pollute threads on college sports message boards discussing it and then chastising other people for actually offering on topic opinions.

Dr Don....good question. I can't answer why so many who never played Div 1 ball, or coached, or assisted, or were water-bearers would know so much. It's amazing.

OK, I guess that's the secondary answer to the question - it's because these sports aren't nearly as complicated or mysterious as the people who played, coached, assisted or water-bore would have you believe. Same with my profession; I get plenty of good ideas from lay people.

I like reading other people's perspectives personally. Without these opinions you wouldn't have a board and without this board you wouldn't have a forum to make your snarky comments on everything Dr. Don. I think a lot of people on this board played either football or basketball at one point in time so I doubt every single comment is without merit.

Just want you all to know where I stand...I see more and more negative, Coach slamming, Player insulting by posters. Why? Is life so frikking hard that some can only feel better by putting down others? I am really disappointed in some, or a lot of, the commentors on GopherHole.

Don, Stop Spending So Much Time Here..

Reading and posting. Over 4300 posts; you must spend 10 hrs. a day here. Do some volunteer work or something. Life is too short.

Interesting, coming from a guy who tells people who are stating facts to "eat the big green Weenie". Maybe you have different rules for yourself than you do for others.

So, New posters catch hell because they are new on GopherHole. Others of us catch hell because we are old and we have over 4300 posts and are old on GopherHole.

The solution then, is no new posters and no old posters. I got that Les.

Amazing. :banghead:

Keep up the good work Doc. Illegitimi non carburundum sit!

Lively discussion is a basic principle of something.:D

What should we talk about then? Should I start a thread about how pretty the uniforms are? Or how my right shoulder is still sore from shoveling snow? The majority of people on here are probably as passionate about Gopher Basketball as I am, so why wouldn't I want to see what their opinions are?

I agree with sharing opinions and having discussions. It is the "name calling" aimed at individuals that bothers me.

Well, my observation has been that anonymity in discourse does not foster human and spiritual unity, closeness and compassion. But from one new poster to one old poster, Kumbaya Doc!

Dr. Don: I agree with your sentiment, and frankly, it's a disappointing side to any message board site. I think there are many dynamics at play here causing such a sometimes caustic atmosphere.

1. Zero personal accountability: What are people going to do to me for posting negative inflammatory comments?
2. Anonymity: No one knows me, so I feel safe to voice my true feelings and bar no holds.
3. The nature of the beast: This is a message board. Opinions are voiced here, whether they're good/bad, rude/polite, dumb/intelligent.
4. It's an outlet: Where else can we vent our feelings of frustration/delight and hope/despair?
5. Bad manners: Gonna sound a little self-righteous here, but some folks just don't choose to watch their tongue. Bad habit. Oooh, that sounds really self-righteous, but hey, it's a message board, so I'll get flamed, but that's the premise of my statement, so what else should I expect? I don't think my car will get keyed, cause no one knows who I am, and my opinion is just as valid as the next guy's, so hey, I'm free to be self-righteous. It's a message board!

Go Gophers! Just try and be nice about it!

Dr Don,

I always look forward to your posts.

I find your OP question a bit curious though. I have always been under the impression that you have "solutions to all problems" = MORE BEER?
