Mark Rosen is reporting its a done deal for Favre to join the vikings. this can only be viewed as a positive for the gophs as it will increase excitement for football in MN with the fan base, as well as just add to the rivalry with the cows to the east. agree?

Here we go....

I am a Vikings and Gophers fan and I am conflicted on the move, on one hand I think Favre is a better QB than either of the other guys, on the other I have hated him my entire life (I'm 24). I do look forward to the circus that will be training camp and that Monday nighter with the Pack in town which also happens to be the same weekend the Badgers visit TCF. Can't wait for the insanity!

good point, that weekend will be full of memories im sure! i am in the same boat as you Ski U Master I have hated him forever, but as long as he brings a ring i guess i can put my hatred aside for a little bit, tho I will always hate him but is also fun to piss packer fans off saying favre/viking comments...

I'm a Packer fan. I obviously don't want him here. But if you guys want a 40 year old quarterback with questionable motives and who really only wants to play in two games, go for it I guess. I hope he doesnt win a game. I still appreciate the 17 years he put in for the good guys, but this one is going to take some time to wear off. If it's true that is. The source on this article is in afghanistan, so Im pretty inclined towards doubt

Any links to this report? I am not seeing anything on espn or the strib.

I'm one that wishes more people could be BOTH Gophers and Vikings fans (like our friends to the East), but it seems like in MN people want/need to be a fan of only one and almost hate the other. I don't get that, but it's the way it is here.

If it is, in fact, that way this move may hurt the Gophers in that it will force more football attention towards the Vikes than the Gophers new stadium. It seems like our media and general population only has so much football interest to go around. I was hoping that if the Vikes were average and the Gophers had the new stadium, more focus would be on campus than the Dome. This move could mean the focus would stay more on the Vikes and less on the Gophers.

Hope I'm wrong about that and the rising football tide raises both ships.

keep telling yourself that. it seems to be the "de facto" line from many packers fan these days to keep their tiny, little heads from exploding when they see favre run out on the field this year in a vikings jersey and lead them to victory over the pack, bears, lions, etc.

i am still more excited about gopher football and always will be, but the vikings plus a brett favre at qb (rather than T-Jack or Sage) will be a much closer second this year. love summer, but is it football season yet?!?!

Packer fans keep saying that because thats what the evidence points to. You think he wants to play for reasons other than sticking it to the packers? Then why is the only team he wants to play for the Packers' main rival? It's going to be interesting to see how Viking fans treat him if he has a few bad games.

I just have to say that I am tremendously disappointed in my father for pledging away his tickets at Lambeau this year without consulting his dear son!

I knew that Favre was coming since working @MSP that night over two months ago when I saw a private plane departing for Mississippi at 0330. There had been the 'will he come back talk'? over that weekend and when I saw that plane on the board I told the ramp agent next to me that this would be a long summer for the green and gold clad twelve year-old inside me. I mean I knew he was a stubborn son of bitch out for revenge against his old boss and all too willing to throw away his god-dom amongst his fans. I knew he was a tough son of a bitch who would be able to come back from an impromtu surgery at 40 if anybody can. I knew Wilf would be ready for the turnstiles to start to turn at the circus. And who will stand in his way if he gets halfway healthy? One Mister Travaris Jackson? It is just Brett versus the bicep right now and I don't know if there has been a tougher bastard in the game since old Bronko himself. I would be absolutely shocked if he didn't come to Minneapolis now. But what does that mean to the fans? I can see how some of you hate him so much, and that will be hard to switch over. I still fondly remember a night in the 'dome when he knocked the Vikes out of the playoffs the last play of the season and seeing all those grown men cry. Will the memories of my father in the stands screaming blasphemies at Favre as he chucked stupid pass after stupid pass yet still somehow manage to come through be a little less nostalgic? Perhaps.

But I was a fan before Farve and will be one long after. Being a Packer fan prepared me to be a Gopher fan (and yes unlike all too many tuition-reciprocity turn-coats in the student section back in my day, I knew I would always be with my dear old alma mater). And Packer faithful and Gopher faithful have both needed the same obstinacy through the years. Majkowski miscues and Mason meltdowns have long since toughened my young gullet with many many gut wrenching acid baths. Favre will be another comparatively brief disapointment. At the end of the season I will be probably more pissed that my dad gave the goddamn tickets away because he didn't think I would want to drive to Greenbay after the Michigan State game. Of course I would have! Cripes.

I don't believe this 1 bit. this is a lie by Mark Rosen and WCCO.

If I was Rosenthals I would be pi$$ed. TJ has had numero chances to be #1 so he has nothing to compain about.

Favre will not be brought in to stand on the sideline with a clipboard unless he is horrible. Favre is a prima dona and his acceptance into Queen Pride may be problematic.

I am a fan of both teams and I welcome this move. Worst case scenario...Favre flops and the Vikes suck. Big deal. We'll have the same result as if we had Sage...no Super Bowl. Best case scenario...he explodes and leads the Vikes to glory. The Packer fans (my wife being one) would be devastated.

The potential upside for the Vikes is EXTREMELY high while the potential downside is not much lower than where they are now.

The biggest downside for the Gophers is that this will take attention off of them. But the solution to that is simple...JUST WIN BABY!

I don't feel sorry for Rosenfels. He's getting paid millions to sit on a sideline for probably one season. Even if Favre comes back its doubtful he is here longer than a year. So who is out? TJack, Rosenfels, or Booty? The logical person in me says Booty gets the boot (so to speak) but I wouldn't be so sure that TJack is safe if Booty shows improvement this summer.

who cares

about the vikings....its no better than the WWF. Pro football has become a sport like the NBA, phony and way over valued. How many times will Brent cry this year?

AMEN! I refuse to watch NBA and NFL games (except the Super Bowl). Lets ditch the Vikes and add on that second deck :D

Why would Mark Rosen and WCCO lie about this. In fact, one would think if they were to lie, it would be to refute the pro football talk.com story and say he is not coming.

I'm not a huge Favre fan, so I'm not thrilled about it, but as long as he plays better then T Jack and or Sage, then I'll live.

Pft, that's laughable, the reason Packers fans universally don't want him here is jealousy. He makes the Vikings a better team, is still light years better than Aaron Rodgers, and nothing would make them more sick than seeing Favre lead the Vikings to the super bowl. Which is a very real possibility.

He's a perfect fit. The only risk, obviously, is that he's more prone to getting hurt (again) at age 40 than at age 26. But that kind of goes with the territory being an NFL QB anyway. Even Brady and Manning were hurt last year, and they always seemed indestructible.

You're crazy if you think Favre is a better QB than Aaron Rodgers right now. His career-long body of work is certainly better, but I think almost any team in the league would rather have Aaron Rodgers than Brett Favre at this point in their careers. You might be blinded by the Pack's record last year, but the problems were with their defense, not Rodgers and the offense.

I don't disagree that Favre is better than the other stiffs the Vikes are rolling out at QB, but your statement about Favre v. Rodgers is ridiculous.

This seems to be a phenominon of hard-core Gopher fans only. Of the Vikings fans I know, about half are Gopher fans too and about half don't care, but none of them hate the Gophers. And most more casual Gopher fans I know (i.e. don't post on here, etc.) don't hate the Vikings. I consider myself a hard-core Gopher fan and I certainly don't hate the Vikings. But a subset of hardcore Gopher fans, on this board especially, despise them. I don't get it. I guess they honestly feel like the Vikings somehow came and stole the glory from this once great program. I say 40 years of losing did that. Even if it's true, it's time to get over it and move on.

I agree, there is a loud contingent who insists that the Vikings and Gophers are natural enemies, but it's a small minority. Most of the Gopher fans in the stadium on Saturday are probably turning their TV to watch the Vikings (or some other NFL team) on Sunday.

I watch the Vikings, but with less interest than I watch the Gophers. If I have to do something with my family on the weekend, I'll miss the Vikings game without being bothered by it. But miss a Gophers game and I have to have a radio at all times.

well, ummmmm because the packer's main rival is the best team in the NFC North, won the division last year, has a running back that goes by the name AD, and is a popular pick to go deep in the playoffs! please don't be so blinded and naive. get over yourselves packer fans......get over yourselves! it is a return to the 70's, 80's and early 90's for your franchise. vikings will rule the central again! ;-)

Why is this 40-y-o myopic redneck being discussed on our Gopher board? Isn't there an L.A. -- er, MN Vikes' board.

oh how original ;)

you sound like one of those transplant, cheesehead rubes who posts this kind of anti-vikings crap in the star tribune comments section following every vikings story. very predictable.

Bronko: I was taught grammar and syntax at the U. What did your GED teach you -- other than how to spend all day spewing worthless info in a chat room.

Community college: very predictable.
