My brother is staying at the Mirage and called to asked how much I'd bet with the Gophs giving up 5.5 pts. He obviously has more disposable income than me because of the $ he's willing to put on the line. Based on the dollar amount I wasn't sure I could say, "go for it." Made me think, how confident am I and how much would I be willing bet. You?

$25.00. I'm not a heavy gambler by the way.

Personally I'd be willing to bet between to $4,000,000 to $10,000,000 on the Gophers to cover.

I don't bet, period. I'm expecting to get nailed on my taxes next year (for some untaxed income), and I'm squirreling every cent away to keep the IRS off my buttocks.

An exhibition game in which the Gophers will have very little motivation? He shouldn't even think about betting on this game.

Why the Gophers are favorites makes ZERO sense. It's just people basing it off of name more than anything else. I'm sure Vegas loves bowl games, because of these kind of games and people don't do any research or record looking. They then make huge profits on the people who know nothing about some of the teams that are underestimated.

The Gophers offense is not very good (statistically) while Central Michigan's is pretty good. Same for defense. Plus, Michigan actually has a winning record.

Why people think the Gophers are -200+ and were nearly a touchdown fav is beyond ridiculous.

I'm betting a lunch we win by at least a touchdown. The big wildcard is Ekpe and Richardson.

Minn is comfortably better on offense and defense if you consider S&P+ credible. We are projected to win by 10 points.

Incidentally, they rate Iowa one spot better than us, which is just about right. Their heroic effort vs MSU is giving them hope but Stanford is going to go off.

Don't know where people get this idea unless they think that all Non-Conference games are "exhibition" games. All the stats are counted for the teams and players and the team.

The Gophers record for the 2015 Season will be either 5-8 or 6-7. It won't be 5-7*

You might be correct about betting though.

On this team, 50 cents. They could lay an egg and lose by 30 no problem. Most likely they will win but not cover. This bet has way too much uncertainty.

I guess that this is my answer :)

Agreed on the "exhibition game" thing. I care a lot more about the bowl game than I do about any of this year's non-con games which were not TCU. We seem to be jumping the gun this year. Usually we wait until after we lose the bowl game to declare it a meaningless game.

For what its worth, I think we should roll right over Directional Michigan.

This is the correct answer

This is how much I would bet, but I would not give 5.5 only 5 like others have said.

Yeah, it's not an exhibition game. I'm also not sure why the Gophers would have less motivation to win than most any other game.

I think the Gophers are a great value at -5.5. Expect Gophers to win by 14-21

Obviously '5' is better than '5.5' but I'm shocked at the hard line people are drawing. It is almost a near certainty that both bets will either win or lose. The only cover you're getting is receiving you bet back if we win by 5...but a 5 point differential is quite rare given how football awards points. Since 2002 it is the second most rare single digit differential( 9 being the most rare). The difference between '3' and '3.5' would be much more significant.

Basically, if you're willing to bet '5' you should be willing to bet '5.5' - maybe even more willing if you can get more return on your bet at 5.5.

Because it means nothing. No trophy/bragging rights anyone cares about on the line like in a rivalry game, no implications on the standings, no bowl eligibility to secure, no championship to be won. Aside from stat padding, depth chart climbing for next year, and #PRIDE, there is next to nothing to motivate players or fans in this game.

So, aside from the three separate things you listed, next to nothing?

Wow! What a bunch of whiners and losers some of our so called fans can be. And some of you ad the nerve to call me "Ba Humbug" on Christmas day because I was suggesting that. You may think that this game means nothing but that is just not correct. We are trying to close the deal on some recruits and this game could do it. Have a happy new year Debby Downer.

All three of those exist in every game of the season, his argument was that there is no less motivation in a bowl game than in a normal game. My opinion is that you lose many of the real competition elements that motivate, which are more powerful motivators than those three.

Not negative, just realistic.

not owning the nation's longest bowl losing streak
not losing to a MAC team
not finishing 5-8
not disappointing Coach Kill who will be there
not losing your final game as a Gopher senior

I guess that this is my answer :)

Would also bite on the over for this game. 48 is a gimme.

No, it doesn't mean nothing. You're not being "realistic", just your typical negative self.
