How many think these leaks are to set us up for something much different?

Is the U leaking names to set us up for a bigger name tonight?

Mona is a PR legend in the Twin Cities, could he be planting these leaks to announce a bigger name?
 

Yeah, I think so. Brilliant, actually.

If not, it's a sad, sad day.
 


Another season ticket holder in 212 does (me). A few guys I talked to today saying the same. Could be Kill, really doubt Chryst. Fact is the media has not had anything of real substance in this search.
 

I think there's a very good chance of it. What are the chances two conflicting reports come out at nearly the same time to different media outlets?
 


while im hoping and praying this is true, i cant see bumbling joel doing anything remotely competent here.

I think so. They've gone through all this cloak and dagger to let it leak like this? Besides if it is Kill/Chryst and they knew it got out - they would announce already.

They want to be first and have no media leak it.
 

Not sure one way or the other, but I will say this: I would prefer Kill over Chryst. Hiring Chryst would only add to the perception of Joel's unending love for all things Wisconsin and would also fly in the face of his whole "proven" head coach mantra during the search.

Having said that, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's somebody else...

Not about fooling. It's about lowering expectations. If you believe your worst nightmare is coming true, anything is better. Pretty standard PR sandbagging.

Who says they're trying to fool the fans? If anything, this would be attempting to fool the media, which has proven themselves over the past year (Tubby Smith to Auburn, Oregon anyone?) to not have a clue one way or the other when it comes to job searches.
 



I hope so. If I were Kill I would not take the job because he is fighting an uphill battle from day 1.

To build excitement for the actual coach. This could be especially true if they were concerned about the Petersen buzz causing whoever they are going to announce to be a letdown.
 

There's no reason to believe that they are even "leaks." Just because some people are reporting something doesn't mean it has to be true or planted by the U.

That's true enough. If the past few weeks have proven anything it's that Schmit has no integrity and is just making stuff up wildly.
 

I'm starting to lean towards that all these names are leaks from the U admin to get us chomping, to get web-r-net hits, keep their names in the press, etc. all to surprise everyone with a splash hire.. Maybe even a name that hasn't even been mentioned.

I've been wrong before, but something in my gut tells me this'll be a big name hire (successful? who knows).
 

It is a bit odd how both names were leaked at approximately the same time.

I would so love to believe this...but for some reason I just don't have that kind of confidence in our administration.
 

well i can honestly say ive never seen all of the u of mn boards get this type of attention.... maturi or mona certainly have made the football program a talker in mpls again
 

Odd how the names leaked right at the end of the Vikings game, yes? We're getting played.
 

This is the sixth coaching search I've followed and all have ended with some level of disappointment. Sadly, it's Kill.

This is true. 24 hours ago I was luke-warm on Edsall. Now I'd be thrilled.

Too big of a coincidence that these two names came at almost the same time from the two biggest sports media outlets in the Twin Cities. Can't imagine we are looking at the truth here.
 

This is what I've been thinking since the Chryst and Kill news came out. They seem to offset one another. I feel like the coach to be is no one we've discussed at all (*cough**Richt**). I mean, zero people saw Tubby coming at all, and Maturi has insisted in a 'Tubby-like hire'.

I mean, there's no way when Maturi said there was a coach that he was surprised showed interest, was inferring Jerry Kill or Chryst. I say, let stuff settle cause I have a homerism-like feeling we're going to get a prominent name.
