How many coaches let their backup QB throw a pass on 2nd and 8 from their own three?

Give the OC credit for playing his backup like a starting QB tonight.
No tight leash with play calling.

Yes and no. First 40 minutes was brilliant. The OC also took his foot off the gas and went conservative- almost killed us. Sure do like him better than any OC in recent memory though.

I think that is because Brooks was gashing them while running. He fumbled on their one yard line. Had we scored there the comeback would have been irrelevant. The OC wasn't the big problem, the turnovers were.

Give the OC an A+ in first half. Give him a D in the second.

Turnovers clearly the #1 problem, but play calling was awful during that bad stretch.

Part of the play calling issue was the whole 4th quarter we were in our own end, so it's easier to pucker up than if you are starting a drive at the 40.

4th quarter was tremendously long after a quick first half of the 3rd quarter.

Considering the number of turnovers, the defense wasn't horrible. Not good, but not horrible for as many drives as they faced in the 4th quarter.

The play calling did manage to take a whole 20 seconds off the clock on the drive after Indiana tied it up. 3 incomplete passes. Brilliant play calling. First half, aside from the spray and pray on the trick play, it was the best it has been under Fleck.

How can they get in and out of the stadium with balls that big!!?!?!

They did everything to lose the game there. Indiana couldn't capitalize.

I would say throwing on first down after Brooks went out was an issue too. Ten minutes left....shorten the game....D knows stud is out and will play tight man or 2 press making "safe" passes difficult. RTB RUN THE BALL there so you don't throw a pick.

That being said....I did like the O game plan. We have some hope and promise if the Robb Smith experiment can be corrected one way or the other.

I’m just going to say the responses to this thread have nothing to do with the original question posed, haha. Even the op doesn’t answer his own question. And to answer your question. A lot.

I felt the opposite.
Please cite examples where coaches have had backups throw from their own three.

I am taking into account nfl quarterbacks too. I’d have to go back to every ncaa game and watch film, which I don’t have access to. A lot may have been the wrong words to use. There are plenty of times I’m sure it happened. It’s all conjecture on my part.
