How good of a rebounder was KG in his prime?

In his prime, where did Kevin Garnett rank as a rebounder?

This one's for <b>baller</b>, maybe the best b-ball player ever to surf GopherHole - and clearly the most knowlegable.

Sorry, I do realize this is a Gopher basketball forum, but I've had a special request from a very 'special' person - <b>our very own 'baller'</b> - a.k.a. 'dboy.'<br/><br/>

Wilt Chamberlain is #1 averaging 22.9 rebound a game, for his career..

Good God! No wonder the dude bedded thousands of women!

Right. To clarify, the question was meant to reflect KG's ranking at the time (his prime) - for that year or set of years. Not all-time.

I have no idea where he ranks all-time......though I do believe it's safe to say he wasn't #1.

jake, safe to say the thread bombed.
now be a good boy and fetch a missed FT with 1:00 left in a 40 point blowout.. no, wait, i've got you confused with KG.

and as KG padded his stats, i know 80% of the view count of this thread is you.

Not to belittle KG as he has been a great player. While it may be apples and oranges when you compare stats from various eras, I would say KG in his prime was closer to #50 than to #25.

That is still VERY good.

Russell and Chamberlain were from another planet!

Dude...a rebound is a rebound. The Wolves rarely, if ever, were in 40 point blowouts when KG was here. Give it up already.

Where did the poll say to rank KG among NBA all-timers? "During his prime" he led the NBA in boards. Not too shabby.

The prosecution rests.

Garnet averaged 10.4 rebounds or greater during a nine year stretch with the Wolves from '98 to '07. The Wolves finished .500 or better in every one of those years except the final two. 40 point blowouts were as uncommon as you having a coherent thought.

Here's how uncommon a 40 point blowout is in the NBA: During those 9 years, the Wolves never lost by 40 points or more and only once did they win a game of that type. That's hundreds and hundreds of games and it happened exactly once: a 53 point win over Chicago in '02.

Hyperbole doesn't help your argument.

ummm..
jake..
if i think he's 2nd best, would i check the first box, second box, or both??...

god i have to explain everything..
KG's 10.4 put him about 5th in total rebounds during that span.. but splitting offensive/defensive and he's probably 1 in defensive, 35th in offensive..

if you have ever played, you know defensive rebounds are childs play.

still dont get it???

okay...

go back and find out how many DEFENSIVE rebounds KG gets off missed FTs... these are never even contested... especially late in a rout. but KG is there...every game.. running those rebounds down.. others, such as Shaq, are on the other end of the floor setting up the offense.. Shaq isn't padding his stats... KG is.

case closed.

seriously, go back to a play-by-play... KG will enter the 4th quarter knowing he has 6 boards... then he will fight his teammates for those missed FT's to bring his total to 10 and idiots like you will praise "KG's double-double"..

A great rebounder??

Dear baller,

KG guarded the post and played mostly on the wing on offense, hence the difference in rebounding stats between offense and defense.

You lead the league 4 consecutive years in rebounding and you're a great rebounder. If KG's offensive game called for him to post up more often, he'd have many more offensive rebounds. He's too tall, too long, too intense, and can jump too high to not be a good offensive rebounder if he was in position more to rebound on the offensive end. He was more of a jump shooter than a banger so he wasn't always in the ideal position for rebounds but that doesn't mean he's not a great rebounder. When in position, nobody was better than him during a 4 year stretch and his defensive rebounding stats bear out the point.

And yes, I did play the game but I'm still not sure what that has to do with anything.

What does the "d" stand for in "dboy" BTW? I have some guesses.

LOL

1. Where does the poll exclude comparing KG to all of NBA history?
2. Where does the poll define "his prime"?

Obviously if you are asking about KG's prime, those being his best contiguous seasons, vs his contemporaries, the 4 consecutive seasons he led the NBA in rebounding, 2003-2004 through 2006-2007 season, he would be #1.

DUH.

I am sorry you did not appreciate any context.

I do agree KG was "Not too shabby".
