For a large percentage of the season the defense has played really well. The improvement from last year is fairly amazing, especially with the abundance of youth/inexperience we are working with.

Not quite ready to play 4 quarters with the big boys, but we're getting there.

I'd love to see how many 20+ yard plays we've given up this year compared to years past. I know we gave up the flee flicker but I think that was the only one.

And then we still held them to a field goal afterward.

Oh way more 20+ last year...way more. What I'm really happy with is our D-Line providing so much pressure this year. In the last 5 years we have had a hard time just getting a sack.

Defense has had its share of issues with teams that feature strong rushing attacks but against pass first and non power teams the defense has been great all year. Definite improvement over the past few years.

Last Year/This year Points allowed.

4 non conference games: 26.75/16.75.

I like our chances in a bowl game if we play a spread team. We've played well against the spread.

A spread team would definitely be a better matchup for us, some team that really likes to throw the ball....I'm not crazy about our chances in the next two based on what the D has struggled with. Maybe we catch MSU just playing out the string but I don't like our chances to keep Bell in check. As for Nebraska, they still have a ton to play for and that is going to be the toughest environment young Mr. Nelson has ever faced.

Holding them to 3 was huge.

Illinois offense was terrible. Our defense is much improved this year, can't argue that. But this game was as much ineptness from the Illini as much as us playing well defensively. I'll still take it though...

We are improving. I think with good/better linebacker play next year they could be very good up front but then the CB will be somewhat untested.

He should expect a combine invite I would think. It's not out of the question for him to get his name called on draft day.

Especially with how important the corner back position is at the next level. I would guess someone will give him a shot.
