Wow, two incredible punts and incredible punt coverage!! I don't recall seeing a crowd react to punts like that in a long time!!

He's really improving for us and is a big asset!

Go Gophers!!

Agreed! Nice work!

He's been doing consistently good this year, sadly not many notice punters. He's been valuable this year!

Two best players today: Peter Mortell, from... Green Bay
and
Eric Murray, from... Milwaukee

Glad to see we found some good guys in enemy territory.

Our much-maligned kickers have pretty nice seasons going on. Mortell will likely be special teams POTW again...

Our special teams have been solid all season and they were great today.

It's sure nice to have some depth in terms of athletic ability, it helps our special teams units big time.

On the post game show, Ray Hitchcock named Mortell his player of the game. Much deserved. And the kick coverage was out of this world. Funny ... look at where we were weak last week: Coverage. Yes it was kickoffs not punts but obviously there was some serious special teams coaching going on this week.

And where is Mortell from? Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Milwaukee also produced Will Hagerup the all-B1G punter at Michigan. How nice would it be to have two all-B1G punters from Wisconsin in consecutive years not playing for Wisconsin?

Three words...no wait, four words: Ray Guy Award Finalist :)

I think there were three consecutive punts that were within the 2-yard line - two Minnesota punts and one Penn State punt. That has to be some sort of record.

Sadly we only notice punters/kickers when they are bad. Good coaches notice

I really think this is one of the keys to the win. Robinson & Belton picked up some nice gains. But they started with such bad field position, they weren't able to score. Allowed the D to bend but not break. Huge part of our team's success.

Except for the roughing the kicker penalty (seriously...WHY are we rushing the punter when we're up two TDs in the 4th Q???), all of our special team units were top notch today. Every time Penn State threatened to get any momentum going, our ST units shut them down. An impressive day all around!

These Wisconsin kickers get their experience from kicking Wisky rednecks off dead deer.

those two punts were the best plays of the second half yesterday

Love it. Love them. Keep it coming. Go Special Teams!!!

Mortell is the best punter I can remember at Minnesota. By that I mean he has the leg and the touch. That one punt was over 60 yards that I think Hutton batted back. The other was about 40 yards. He is a weapon. He can flip the field, or pin the opponent deep, or both.
