Also, it should be on espn3 online.

I will be watching.

How awesome would it be to get Sumlin for 1.5 and then be willing to pay O'leary (of UCF) 1.1-1.2 to be his D-coordinator. (O'leary makes 1 mill per year at UCF.)

We hire Sumlin, and then Houston hires Houston Nutt.

It'll be interesting to hear whether the commentators and halftime show folks mention Sumlin in connection with the Gophers job.

7:11 Am I watching the current Gopher defense?

Sumlin's teams are not strong on defense. Why would anyone want to watch that for another 5 years until our AD has to let him go? There are many better coaches available.

You can’t scheme your way to a good defense, you either have the athletes, or you don’t. Look at coach Cosgrove. Last year’s defense was actually pretty decent; this year’s defense is a disaster. I highly doubt he is teaching them any differently.

Why is it that some teams continually have bad defenses? Their coach either does not recruit good defensive players or they don't do a good job of coaching the defense. Look at Wacker and Mason. Sumlin will fall into the same category.

Sumlin is not making a good case to be our next coach. The defense is very porous and the offense is not exactly lighting up the score board. Who's next on the list of coaches?

No Go

After watching the 1st quarter Im gonna go ahead and say please do not hire Sumlin. Not looking solid at all.

If the Danny Hope experiment doesn't work at Purdue Sumlin will likely be the first one called. Keep that in mind since Sumlin would probably leave the Gophers in a hearbeat for West Lafayette. You all may disagree but so be it.

UH doesn't look good on either side of the ball. We need someone who can attract better assistants.

He is likely going to be at neither place. He's probably going to be the next coach at Texas A&M.

Well, part of that is a function of where he is. UH probably won't attract the the cream of the coordinator crop.

With that said, Sumlin hasn't exactly blown my socks off.

Let's see what kind of adjustments he makes coming into the 2nd half. As of now, it's not exactly a sterling audition.

Yeah I think drawing conclusions on Sumlin after a half of football is sound. Two halves and we pretty much have gospel.

By the way anyone wondering why Houston is struggling should ask themselves who Case Keenum and where he is.

They're a mite concerning defensively. I understand they just switched to a 3-4 and have a new coordinator and all; but when the announcers refer to UH's problems taking angles and making tackles "all season," I get a little skeeved. Young Case may not be able to solve those problems.

Worry not, though; he's still in my top 5.

Houston has issues in their secondary. Their front seven is good for the most part.

Is case on the normal special teams units too?

They are mounting a comeback, so let's see, not that one game says it all, but...

I think we need to look elsewhere. Especially if he plans to bring the same coaching staff north with him. The Houston defense isn't any better than the current Gopher defense.

Hear a lot about Houston losing their QB, but the Houston defense just gave up 40 to true FR QB.

Houston's defense tackles worse than the Gophers. Terrible defense.

They actually lost their top two qbs in the third game of the year.

Keenum is a star. But the backup who was lost was not the second best quarterback. The second best quarterback played tonight, but he would have redshirted this year with Keenum healthy.

We Need to Do Better than Sumlin

This is not the hire we should be looking for right now - He would be a big gamble - so what if he was an Assistant here before, that is meaningless. This program and Maturi and the President need a much more experienced proven winner than this gamble. We will win starting with rebuilding a defense and then an offense, not the other way around!

It's Wacker ball - good passing attack, some running, weak defense. We don't need it.
