My hope for the Gophers is that they will bring in everything they were doing in last year's bowl game. I remember being shocked as I watched the Gophers open it up and show some creativity. Many of the players who played in that game are back. They should be able to put a lot of that type game plan in.

My other hope is that what we have seen is just a "dumbed down" version of the offense and they are not going to throw the real offense in unless they need it. Just a little miss direction once in a while would help. They just seem to want to tell the other team " We are coming right at you ... try to stop us." Once again, I hope to see more misdirection because I don't think we can just run folks over via Wisconsin style running game.

When Nelson was on WCCO yesterday morning he was asked how much of the team's Offense was shown Thursday night. He said about 50% and then corrected himself and said under 50%.

I don't know if the success on offense was more because Texas Tech was so bad on defense or the Gophers were really innovative. No matter ... it was fun to watch and I hope Nelson is correct with much more to come when it counts!

You won't see the full standard package until Iowa. Until then it will be four different offenses for four different opponents. Vanilla as possible.

I'm not sure they can beat San Jose State with a vanilla offense. I'm not sure how good they will be this year but I think they won 11 games last year and they have never been afraid of taking on the big boys. It would be great if they could get by without showing what they really want to do.

San Jose State scored over 40 points in 7 games last year. Our Offense can't be vanilla against them because they're capable of putting up points...

How did San Jose State do this last weekend?

Was it just their offense, or was their defense and special teams involved in that scoring? I know that's important to you...

We will get a decent idea of what to expect out of San Jose State this weekend when they take on Stanford. After that they will have 2 weeks to get ready for us so we should be facing the best of what they have to offer this year. Could be a real test but will be very interesting to see how they do next weekend.

My guess is, Stanford does against SJSU just what the Gophers did against UNLV; play things pretty vanilla, do just enough to win, and we may not really know that much about SJSU until Sept 21. It wouldn't surprise me if Stanford wins but not convincingly, and not because of SJSU playing them tough. Hard to read too much from just one game but SJSU wasn't exactly dominant against FCS Sac State.
