His recruiting rank ins have been 4-5 the last three years in his conference, hardly a strong endorsement. Clearly he seems to coach beyond his recruiting. He was a D coach at Michigan, what kind of offense does he run at SDSU? Does he have a good OC that might join him in Mn., if hat's where he ends up?

You couldn't have posted this in one of the other Brady Hoke threads?

recruiting rankings only matter until they step on the field for first practice, and as Glen Mason says, personality, drive, and the drive to get better aren't factored when ranked. Lots of guy are never seen by recruiting sites, and especially the type of guys he would have been recruiting at SDSU. Remember when Chip Armelin from the BB team was ranked as the 200th SG on rivals?

Oh...*NOW* Recruiting Rankings don't matter?

If a coach is some kind of genius that he goes after 3 stars instead of 5 stars because he knows they are better, then OK. If a coach can only sign 2 or 3 star athletes then he's behind the 8-ball especially in a conference like the B-10,

Brewster's Tenure kills this arguement...

I'm not gonna judge Hoke by his mediocre recruiting classes but at the same time his name doesn't exactly excite me for Gopher Football...

They matter to an extent. I only take them into consideration when it's from a scout heavy state (FLA, TEX, CAL) where experts are watching these kids actually play. I don't want to see a ranking based on a combine, workout, or 1 game. They combine a players potential with his current skills to come up with a ranking. Completely up to the player to fulfill that potential, and be a good teammate.
