fiscally responsible representabive of the administration of the University of Indiana. He is not wasting the money employing a search firm. He seems to have come up with a similar list of potential candidates as several of the other college football program with vacancies for a head football coach. That will save his athletic budget a lot of money, and will most likely produce about the same type of results.
He also appears to have no personal public relations expenses. He appears to be able to communicate his goals himself. That also saves a lot of money!
He sounds honest, open and in tune with what talent is available and might be a good fit for Indiana. He most likely will be able to do a more than adequate job using his own personal strengths, skills and communications abilities to establish a good working relationship with the football coach that he will eventually hire.
I certainly do hope that Dave Mona will fill us all in about how much money our program will need to raise to pay for his salary and for the costs of the search firm. Certainly we can all make some generous contributions to help with those costs!
If Sumlin is not interested in the Minnesota job, no way he goes to IU.
Not necessarily. Sumlin graduated from HS in Indianapolis and played for Purdue. Maybe he thinks he could be the guy to finally bring some respectability to IU. It's doubtful that he would actually take the job, but his ties to the state cannot be dismissed out-of-hand.
That is all well and good, care to make a wager? Dismissed out-of-hand? You just said it was doubtful that he would actually take the job.
No, I don't want to bet. I too said that he won't take the job. Do you know what the phrase "dismissed out-of-hand" means? All I did was point out some reasons why he could be inclined to take a less desirable job, not say that he would take it. It is similar to why Dungy would probably coach here if he ever did coach in college, even though he could virtually have his pick of any job in the country.

Yes, I know what dismissed out-of-hand means. Thanks. So, in the end we agree. Sumlin will not coach IU.
The Mason thing is interesting. My gut says Glen wants to coach again, but would he really want to go to IU?
Yes, max: I saw the "no search committee" and mistakenly wrote no consulting firm. You, of course are correct and I am so very deeply sorry...so incredibly sorry...for my mistake.
However, he is saving money by not bringing in a Dave Mona type to hold his hand when he makes trips to San Diego. Somehow, I don't think real football coaching types like to deal with athletic director types who need someone to spin for them when they make a pitch. And, we all know that the buck does NOT stop with maturi. prexy b has told us that much.
Yes, I know what dismissed out-of-hand means. Thanks. I was willing to dismiss Sumlin out-of-hand because I have heard through the grapevine he was not sold on coming here and I do not think he would take a lesser job, regardless of his ties to the state of Indiana. So, in the end we agree. Sumlin will not coach IU.

Sumlin is in a good spot at Houston anyways. Doesn't hurt living in a nice city and having to not leave your state or even county to recruit. I've got concerns about his bad defenses translating to a BCS conference. If you can't stop the run then you are in trouble playing Big 10 teams.
Why does Mason think he deserves another BCS job? If he really enjoyed coaching he should head to the MAC. Kent State would be a nice landing spot for him back in Ohio. I dont want to see him keep sitting out thinking what he did at Minnesota should give him consideration for any & every BCS job opening.
