Hoffarber playing in Portsmouth Invitational

As a Gopher alum currently attending Marquette Law School, I like that Blake is on the same team as Jimmy Butler.

Yeah, with Syracuse's Rick Jackson and ODU's Hassell.. mean. They should be able to dominate in their first round game. Jimmy had a nice showing today in the All Star game... wish he could stay on campus forever.

Best of luck to Hoff in the Portsmouth and beyond. I, and I'm sure a whole lot of others, will miss him next year.

I'll be down in Portsmouth to watch Blake and I spoke to his father, who decided to use up some frequent flier miles, so he will be down there as well. I'll be posting update on the site, message board and twitter (collegebbnews).

Marcus tweet:

"Hoffarber finished with eight points and four assists in 20 minutes at Portsmouth. he was 2-7 from 3-pt range."

Go Gophers!!

78-74 victory.. they'll play again Friday - 6pm CT. Blake's team was led by 19 from the man Jimmy Butler from Marquette... Jimmy also had 4 rebs, 4 asts and just 1 turnover in 29 minutes. 6/11 FG, (1/1 3FG), 6/6 FT for Butler.

Blake 20 mins, 2/7 shooting (all 3FG), 2/2 FT, 8 pts, 4 ast, 1 reb, 1 TO in 20 minutes. Started the game, but had the lowest minute total of all 8 players on his team (but everyone was in the 20's).

Friday's matchup is against Casey Mitchell's (WVa) team.. Casey had 23 pts.. also on that team is Mike Davis - he had 14 and 11 today. They beat Talor Battle's team .. Battle with 13 pts, 4 ast, **5** to's in 20 minutes.

Blake Hoffarber hit his third three-pointer to put his team up 81-68 with 9:44 to go in the Portsmouth Invitational title game Saturday night. He has 13 points.

http://thehoopsreport.com/article.aspx?id=696 Ryan Feldmans overall Grade..."BLAKE HOFFARBER - GRADE: D+
Hoffarber hit some shots here and there, but he was one-dimensional. And his shooting wasn't very good at all."
Man, judging from that guy, 90% of the players had a terrible tourney. The collective average of his "grades" is like a C-, and even some of the highest grades w/B's and B+'s had were ripped up:

TALOR BATTLE - GRADE: B-
Battle shot the ball well and made a few nice plays, but his defense was weak and he struggled at point guard.

VERNON MACKLIN - GRADE: B+
Macklin can't shoot at all. He struggles from the free throw line and he can't shoot outside of five feet from the basket. But he was powerful down low. He grabbed boards and threw down some monstrous dunks.

GARY MCGHEE - GRADE: B
McGhee played solid defense, grabbed rebounds and scored when he had the ball near the basket. He struggles against double-teams and often panics with the ball.

ALEX STEPHESON - GRADE: B-
Stepheson rebounded and used his strength to score down low, but he was shaky with the ball and very erratic.

Those were some of his "higher" marks.

Anyone know how many of these guys actually land on an NBA roster? Isn't it like maybe 1-2 every year out of 60?

Very few get in the NBA the next year. But a lot are able to use their performances in Portsmouth to get a contract with a high-level European team. i.e. Ben Woodside.

Blake measured at 6'2.5" without shoes. 6'4" wingspan. No-step vertical of just 27.5 (although it's about triple what mine probably is).
So rounded, about 6'3'' without shoes, probably 6'4, 6'4.5'' with them.

Also, 27.5? That's actually higher than guys like Malcolm Delaney, Brad Wanamaker, Curtis Kelley?

Says he's 196 lbs...he must've lost a lot of weight since last year.

Dallas Lauderdale only measures 6'7.5" I thought he was taller. Long wing span though. 7'6.5"

I'm surprised he even got invited. Yeah he's tough and physical, but there's not a huge market for 6'7.5" guys that average 3.5 boards and shoot 30% from the foul line. Dime-a-dozen (although it's tough to find guys that actually shoot that low of a FT% with their eyes open).

Incredible length, though. Knows his role. 73% FG shooter for a 34-3 team (helped by easy, uncontested dunks at Williams Arena.. man that was pathetic... I think his career % is probably right around there as well). Excellent shotblocker. In the last three years, his block % has been 10.4%, 9.9% and 11.7%, respectively.

Compare those percentages to the best shockblocker for the Gophers, a team that blocks a ton of shots, over the past three years: RSIII 8.6%, Damian 8.8%, Damian 9.3%.

He's one ugly dude and not very exciting to watch when his team has the ball, but his uncle is Jim Chones so I'll give him a little respect.

Tisdale was the tallest guy there at 6'11.75", Lauderdale has him on the wingspan by 4.5" Man, Battle only weighed in at 164, only two guys lighter than him. How do they get the agility score? If it goes highest to lowest, Battle didn't do well on that at all.
