Highest graded returning B1G WRs (1. Rashod Bateman, Minn)

So according to PFF we have the #1 receiver and #1 running back in the Big Ten returning? Can pretty much guarantee that hasn't happened here before. Plus assume Morgan is the #2 QB behind Fields.

Assuming we have a 2020 season, I really hope the coaches turn the offense loose right away. Could easily be the greatest offense in Gopher Football history with all the returning talent we have at the skill positions and along the offensive line.

Blowouts are important for College Playoff Teams
Not really.
Not losing is the most important.

No unbeaten power 5 team has ever been left out.
No 2 loss team has ever gotten in.

1 loss power 5 teams have gotten in 15 times
1 loss power 5 teams have been left out 6 times.

The 6 one loss power 5 teams were left out in the following circumstances:
2- 2014 (1 unbeaten and 5 1 loss teams... 2 1 loss teams were co champions of conference)
2- 2015 (1 unbeaten and 5 1 loss teams...the two left out didn’t win their conference and the conference champion was in the playoff)
1 - 2017 (5 1 loss teams....1 loss team left out was not conference champion.)
1- 2018 (3 unbeatens and 2 1 loss teams...this is the only time an unbeaten or 1 loss power 5 outright conference champion did not make playoff)

so in summation.
How you win doesn’t matter.
If you want in the playoff, have 0 or 1 loss. Win your conference.

I stand corrected.

So glad to see this cuz Jerry Kill’s WR QB recruits might have been the worst we ever had. Kill balls did not have ‘it’

Got in a stupid argument on Twitter last night about Bateman vs Rondale Moore

In their mind they were reasonable rational Purdue fans arguing moore is better and I was suffering from Gopher bias

Just felt nice to argue sports

Have never totally understood the Moore hype. He is an amazing athlete but has some definite limitations as a WR. He and Bateman really can't be compared....Bateman is a true #1 WR who will go highly in the NFL draft. Moore is an explosive playmaker who can do some things in the return game but isn't that true #1 type WR.

that was part of my argument.

?????????????????

We have the #1 rated running back, and the #1 returning wide receiver.

I'm really, really unhappy about this.

It means we probably won't throw to the tight ends often enough!

Moore is good, but our defense mostly contained him in 2018 and again in 2019, until he left the game with the injury. Purdue literally couldn’t cover Bateman in last year’s game.

He also is on an offense that's more one dimensional. They have another solid WR but the run game isn't great. As great as Bateman was teams had to worry about our run game and TJ so they couldn't focus on him.

I just hope he follows Tyler Johnson's example and returns for his Senior season! If he has the Junior season we all expect and hope he does, he certainly could declare early.

To be fair, i'm not sure many teams were 'worried' about the Gopher run game. Aware not to overlook it? Yes, for sure. This year i think we all expect bigger things out of the line though, so it might become a thing.

Fleck made a comment in a video, not sure if it was intentional or not, but basically said they have Bateman for one more season.

Moore had 114 catches for 1200 yards as a freshman and was one of the best players in the B1G in 2018. He absolutely deserves the hype. I’d still rather have Bateman but no doubt Moore is one of the elite receivers in the country even if he probably isn’t an early round NFL draft prospect.

The Gophers have a balanced attack that I have ever seen with the top returning WR and RB in the B1G behind a behemoth Offensive Line and a QB that is bound to get drafted in the NFL. Plus, they certainly know how to milk the clock! Just ask Auburn.

All is good.

Gopher tight ends are the #1 returning tight ends in the conference. Of course, just my opinion.

Whatever the term we were still a run first team and an RPO team so teams had to at least respect and pay attention to the run. The only games where we really struggled running the ball (after the non con) were IA and WI when we were down a starter
