For Pro Football Focus, it is time to break down the best players returning to the field next season.
The Big Ten returns one Heisman Trophy finalist, two All-Americans and a lot of star power Here is a look at how PFF ranks them.
1. TANNER MORGAN, QB - MINNESOTA - 91.4
It will be interesting to see how PJ Fleck’s top passer handles the changes that took place this offseason. The Gophers lose some talent around Morgan, and also say goodbye to coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca. But Morgan’s first full year as a starting quarterback was excellent, including wins over Penn State and Auburn. After 3,253 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2019, Morgan projects as a weapon in 2020.
7. RASHOD BATEMAN, WR - MINNESOTA
Look for Tanner Morgan and Bateman to feed off each other yet again next season. Bateman broke out as a sophomore with 60 catches for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns. His official “statement game” came Nov. 9 in the win over Penn State when he caught seven passes for 203 yards and a touchdown. It always helps when two top players, such as a quarterback and wide receiver, return to the fold looking to improve upon the previous season.
