Chill out. Give our coach a chance to coach a game before you light your torches.

Criticize Maturi for overpromising/underdelivering. But at least give Kill a chance to coach a game.

Totally agree.

This could be the most brilliant hire or it could be another dud. We just don't know.

No kidding...everyone who thinks Kill is so bad should go look at his Wikipedia page. The guy has won consistently wherever he has been. He looks much better than Brady Hoke after his tenure at Ball State. Maturi may have overpromised but oh well. Like I said, I will support this hire no matter who it is. Welcome aboard Coach Kill!

I support the guy. But I really am disappointed in Maturi. Really, really disappointed.

My issue isn't with Kill. If he's the guy, I'm behind him. This isn't as WTF of a hire as Brewster was, but it smacks of the type of hire an AD that is overmatched in the MAC conference would make.

I'll date myself on this, but Kill becomes Greg Brock when he replaced Steve Garvey for the Dodgers. His biggest problem was not who he was, it was who he wasn't. Kill should be able to get the program back to where we were four years ago which would be a HUGE step in the right direction, but he's not the Home Run hire we were all looking for, expecting, and quite frankly, should have made.

Fire Maturi. He clearly isn't the solution which makes him part of the problem.

Kill is fine if we are a Big East team but does anyone honestly project this guy to help us get to the top of the Big Ten West?

maybe thus guy becomes our version of Alvarez?

need to give the guy a chance.

Here are the basic problems.

There were some A list candidates (Peterson, Mullen, ect) we kinda hoped for but were not necessarily seen as realistic. There were some B lists coaches (Hoke, Edsall, Calhoun, ect) while not necessarily top choices were understandable and probably would be acceptable. Kill comes in as a someone who is not on anyone's B list much less anyone's A list. I don't blame Kill for this, just that is the way it is.

2. MN is a Major University in the BT, one of the better conferences in the BCS and nation and also one of the most challenging. They are bringing in a coach who has nowhere near the experience from what I understand to handle the challenges on a weekly basis the BT brings. Does that mean he cannot get it done, no. But we do not know for sure if he can get it done either.

3. I do not know who all Maturi went after, but it has to be that Bruin and Maturi have made the environment at MN so bad no one with a credible resume wants to be there, even with an impressive money package offer. Something is not right.

4. I feel bad for Kill in a sense, because he is going to have to win over the fans who had to be expecting someone a little better, at least in name. Hate to say it this way, but it almost reminds me of Faust with Notre Dame (though obviously not that bad)

Maybe you people should start worrying about Minnesota becoming a competetive Big Ten

program before you start worrying about being a top Big Ten football program. Yes, this program is going to have to fight it's way out of the basement of the Big Ten standings. But, IF we have a coach who can COACH and put a team on the field that has a good offensive line, a decent running game and an improving defensive line and linebacking crew on the field maybe we will be able to RUN the ball and STOP the run. That will be a start.

I want a coach who will not abandon his existing players...but...a coach who will evaluate the talent of his returning players, continue to coach them up and put them in systems and schemes that will play to their strengths...not put them in some schemes that they are not capable of playing or suited to play.

I want a coach who will KNOW that he needs to beat NDSU. I want a coach who will target iowa and wisky. He might not...make that...he will not beat them all the time, but, he will compete with them and he WILL beat them some of the time.

I want a coach who knows what it is like NOT to be born on third base. I want a coach who knows how to build, coach, play in the heat, in the cold, in the rain and in the snow. I want a coach who can recruit his good linemen out of the states of Minnesota, wisky, the surrounding states of North Dakota and South Dakota and even dip down into iowa. I want a coach who can go into the Chicago-land area (since that is where Coach Kill has been recruiting) and have a chance at some of those football players.

I want a coach who will demand discipline on the football field.

You people who wanted the crazy priate boy are playing a little too fast and loose for my tastes. He is one whacked out crazy man. No thanks: I wouldn't want to be following the whacky escipades of that loose cannon.

You had better hang on to your tickets...otherwise: bye bye, don't let the door hit you on your way out. ; 0 ) There just may be a few wins in TCF BANK STADIUM starting in 2011. But, it is not going to be easy. It still is going to be a project. It still is the Big Ten and it still is really hard to win a lot of games in Big Ten play.

This program needs a slow and steady hand to build it into a competetive program. It also needs a slow and steady and loyal fan base. It doesn't need all the five star fantasy recruits that OSU will get. It just needs some big-hearted, hard-working, loyal, honest, disciplined, capable and talented kids for the coaches to coach up and then just watch them get out there and compete.

Big Ten games are hard to win. Big Ten Championships are next to impossible to win outright (OSU, wisky & MSU tied this year.), but, that is something to aspire to. We will watch our progress by keeping track of the number of Big Ten wins minus Big Ten losses. Progress is the goal. Always progress!

I can not support mediocrity

Deleting all my manic rants from tonight as a public service.

Ya, I feel bad for Kill. Where we currently are post-Brewster, we just needed a much bigger name.
I will always support the Gophers, and I want to support Kill, but this is just not a good hire for what the Gophers need right now.

I don't think any of the anger is with Kill. Why would it be? It is with Maturi and the incompetent Administration.

I think its obvious and no one wants to admit it.

Maturi and President B. tried to get the bigger named guys and they said "no thank you". I understand we don't want to admit where the Gophers sit on the national scale of things, but that is just the way it is. As I said on an earlier post.

1.) Harbaugh: Next job is for sure Michigan or the NFL
2.) Patterson: Successful team moving to the Big East, no reason to move.
3.) Petersen: Has a good team and probably is waiting for Harbaugh to move and take his job at Stanford if he is waiting for anything else.
4.) Hoke: Used the Gophers as leverage for more money from SDSU
5.) Calhoun: Also took his name out of the Colorado job. Happy at his Alma Mater. Turned down Tennessee last year
6.) Mullen: Wanted too much money to move. Clemson who spends a crap ton on football offers up 4 million for HC + coordinators. Were we really going to dish out 5 million to a guy like Mullen?
7.) Golden: content at Temple while he waits for the Penn State job. Also took his name out of the Vanderbilt gig.
8.) Sumlin: This one I have no excuse for really. Just little interest in Minnesota.
9.) Leach: You can be upset about this guy getting away IMO
10.) Bellotti: Took his name out of the Colorado job as well and was not ready to get back into coaching.
11.) Ken Niumatalolo: Not sure
12.) Fulmer: Old, didn't make much sense
13.) Edsall: the guy is mediocre Big East and he's going to the orange bowl. Hard to leave that.
14.) Fedora: Who knows how much interest he or the school actually had in each other. He was just the subject of Twitter rumors for one day.
15.) Shannon: Showed interest in us, but we must not of
16.) Jagodzinski: interviewed as far as I know, would you rather have him over kill? Not me.
17.) Trestman: Never contacted, happy in Montreal. Would you rather have him over Kill?
