The next time you're carrying the ball and you make it to the second level (or beyond), remember that you're bigger than most any DB you'll come across. Run them OVER!!!

There's been a handful of times this year that Mitch has tried to put a move on a DB or juke/stutter step and got tackled with ease going laterally. Most notably, on the horrendous opening drive against Northwestern (just missed Maxx to start, Cobb fumble, 5-yard penalty), Mitch broke loose for a really nice gain on 3rd and 12 and came up 2 yards short because he tried to elude the DB towards the sideline. A first down in that situation, instead of essentially going 3 and Out on their first possession, could have done a lot to build some momentum early in the game, start a nice scoring drive, keep the defense off the field, etc. Fortunately it didn't hurt them against NU, but it could down the road.

Turn it upfield, and RUN HIM OVER!!

Sorry. Had to vent... I'm okay now...

As long as we are giving him tips, he should protect the ball a little bit. Someone needs to teach him how to hold the rock.

I nominate you, Tim Riggins. If Mitch runs over you, just one time, you won't try again, I guarantee you.

I'm willing to give him some tips on holding onto the ball, hopefully getting yanked will finally get the message across.

Yup. I hold my breath whenever someone goes in for a tackle on him.

Kill has preached "ball security/job security" since he became a head coach, maybe before. The option is a bit risky and he ingrains taking care of the ball from the outset. On a team that is 7th in the country in fewest turnovers (8), Mitch has 6 of our 11 fumbles and 2 of our 3 lost. There's a fine line between harping on it so much that it almost has the reverse effect, but I'm sure he's going to have some reminders about taking care of the football.

i'll let mitch know the tires plus yer working at so he may swing by and give you tips. 'upsell em!'

Well mitch will be your starting QB this week.. no way nelson plays with a hip pointer...he will be lucky to be back in 2 weeks.

Hey ogee - interesting you bring that up because I have noticed the same thing but have a theory on it. I think Mitch took a pretty hard hit early in the season that hurt him and as a result doesn't run as powerful now. He seems to back of direct contact, almost to the point of going backwards a bit. Like the TD run at Indiana, he could have taken that DB and knocked his lights out!!

Limegrover said on the radio today that Nelson will be ready to play on saturday.

Hypothetical-If Nelson does not return in the last game, does Mitch march us down vs that vaunted Hoosier defense for the go ahead score?

It was hardly a march, it was a few warmup plays and a 50 yard sprint by Dos Equis. But I think Mitch pulls it off if he is in there. Then again, as Dr. Don says, if my aunt had nuts, we'd call her my uncle.

So this means you are ok with fumbles? If it was a one time thing, not a big deal, they happen, but when ball protection has been an issue all year, it needs to be addressed. I'm surprised the coaches didn't do something sooner or maybe they have and the message wasn't getting through.

Tires plus is the best you could come up with?
