Tech fan here. Just seeing if we can get good conversation going for our game next week. How's your team looking, and who should we watch out for, both offensively, and defensively. Haven't watched much football this season, so forgive my ignorance...but what kind of offense are you running?

Looking forward to another great game!

The Basic offense is a zone read option which wasn't really in evidence at the end of the year because of injuries. Some of the important pieces like QB/WR Marquis Gray and three Offensive Linemen will be back. With a true freshman quarterback in Nelson the playbook was conservative but with 15 practices it may have been opened up. We're nor even sure which QB will start. The defense is a base 4-3. The line will get after the QB pretty good and with a pretty good defensive backfield we've been good against the pass. Our Linebackers have been somewhat of a disappointment against the run. So basically it will be strength against strength matching up your offense against our defense.

It appears TT is a senior heavy team whereas the Gophs are one of the youngest of all BCS teams. I am hoping we see a different Gopher team than the last few games of the season.

That being said I'd be careful hangin around these parts. We've got an Aggie as our border patrol.
He ain't going to take to kindly to you trespassing.

The OP seems interested in having an actual football conversation, so he's alright in my book.

However, at the first sight of goal posts being torn up, I have a penicillin shot at the ready to put him down.

KingBling, what are your thoughts on the coaching and play calling responsibilities for this game? At this time last year, we were in the Meineke Bowl sans head coach and had our outgoing DC DeReuter at the helm. No doubt KK will be watching from a suite to evaluate talent. Do you feel confident in the team leadership and which players do you think can best use this game to get some looks from your new HC?

Im sorry...but unless you are a hot dance line chick from the south...we really don't like talking football with our opponents. Got any pix? Then we can talk. : )

For the Gophers it will come down to, can anyone step up at receiver. Getting our starting center, and 2 other lineman back will hopefully help quite a bit. Currently we don't have a receiver on the roster with more than 300 yards receiving this year. If we can have a passing game then we have a chance, if not, we'll have to rush for over 250 yards, which, we could have a decent running attack with our lineman back and Marqueis Gray at 100% (I hope he steps up at receiver). Our offense is currently ranked dead last of all 70 bowl teams. This team will be fired up though, and will play with heart and never quit. Our defense has the ability to be pretty disruptive and make some plays.

Our pass defense was very strong during the non-conf season including a great showing against a very good Syracuse passing attack. TT will be by far the best passing unit we have faced this year but overall we have preformed well against the pass this season. Tough to say how good the Pass D did during the conference season because for the most part during our conference loses our opponent gauged us on the ground and didn't have to do much through the air to win the game.

The offense has been a mess all year due to injuries, lack of playmakers at the skill positions, rotating QB's, play calling.....you name it. Really no way to predict what kind of showing we will get out of the offense at the bowl game. As someone else mentioned we have gotten very little out of the WR corps this year and the best one we had was the guy that quit very publicly with a few weeks to go in the season.

Going to take a great showing by the defensive secondary to keep us in this one because we are not a team that is capable of coming back from a big deficit. If we can keep it close and run the ball it could be a good game. If TT gets out quick look out because it could get ugly in a hurry. Best hope for us is that the coaching turmoil has put a kink in the game planning and the team will take a little bit to get organized and figure things out. Being ahead or at the very least within striking distance at halftime is going to be key.

We played one of our better games against Syracuse, which runs a similar offense to that of Tech. I'm worried about how we handle your wide line splits and if we can get enough pressure on your QB with his quick rhythm passing. The plus side for us is that our pass'e defense is probably the part of our overall defense. The negative for us is we don't put mant points on the board
( 21 point game average) If Gray starts at QB and has his A game going I think we can hang with you if we also force some turnovers. If not, I'm afraid the game will be over by halftime

I'm not sure what to think, actually. Chris Thomsen is really a heck of a coach, and should be able to get these guys motivated to play in the game. I think we will see the future of the offense when Sonny Cumbie calls the plays. I think he will get a chance to be OC under Kliff, and whether that will be in name only is yet to be seen.

I'd like to see Brewer get some playing time, also Amaro could be huge in KK's offense, too. Amaro needs this game to get back to playing after suffering an injury against WVU. He hasn't played since that game. Tech's offense under KK/Cumbie should be top 5, but we will need better OL play next season that what we have had the last couple. If we can do that, we have the QB, WR's, and RB's to put up huge numbers.

Defense? Who knows. I'm sure it will be as bad as it's always been, so I'm not expecting much improvement in that area.

Aggies don't worry me, so I should be fine.

Texas Tech really isn't as much SR heavy as it looks. We have rotated so many players in, and out that classification isn't an issue. I can only think of one, or two guys that we will miss, and both of those are on offense.

Tech will miss Moore and Waddle. Both those guys have been good, and is always tough to replace. Tech won't miss Doege, because he's a turnover machine. We also have Brewer starting next season. Tech also won't miss Stephens at RB too much, because we still have Kenny Williams, and our RB position is deep. 3, or 4 deep, and all of those guys could start. We are very, very deep at WR, so we should be able to replace the outgoing guys fairly easily. We were able to redshirt 2 4* guys at WR this season...that's how deep we are.

It concerns me that Minnesota runs the zone read. It doesn't seem like Tech has ever been able to stop it, or even slow it down.

Tech doesn't use the same line splits as when Leach was here. They have been shortened up quite a bit because we have been using a zone blocking scheme, but not very effectively. Tech's offense has been pretty good, but not as good as in years past. We have very good offensive players, but I think the offense has been held back by Tubs, and he wanted to make it a little more conservative.

Will be interesting to see if Cumbie opens it up more, which I think will happen. He's going to want the SR's to have fun, and opening it up will help with that.

King, prepare to watch your texas tech squad turn the ball over 6-7 times.

I really like how TT was trending. No wonder Tuberville smacked the GA. Makes me optimistic.

KingBling: If you have any pull with the coaching staff, tell them to go after our Cornerback - Carter. He's undersized and shouldn't be a problem for a team that likes to air it out.

Your QB has 4,000 yards this year and the same last year and is hitting at 70%. Looks like a blowout to me, as you will also be able to run against us. Our offense has been weak for a couple of years, especially this year, and the coaching staff is not very imaginative in play-calling. We will likely start a true freshman, Nelson, at QB over the senior and very athletic M. Gray, who has been injured, but if Gray starts, watch out - it could be a different game. But my guess is they'll go with Nelson and use Gray as a receiver, in the wildcat, and occasionally in the read option (everyone knowing he's carrying). Our receiver corps is decimated.

Well, I shall interject here. I guess our Gophers do not stand a chance based on all of our weaknesses.

The game could end up in a blowout, but I'd highly doubt. We didn't even blow out KU, and they should have the one team in our conference that was considered a cakewalk. Our defense will make sure it's not, and we will also probably have 1, or 2 turnovers in this game. Doege has excellent numbers, but he also has turned the ball over quite a bit, too. Tech really should have won 9 games this season.

Our TE, Amaro, will be back for this game. If he's truly healthy, he will be a matchup nightmare for anyone on your defense. If he's not 100%, he will be a less effective. Also, I'm sure we will go after Carter quite a bit, since he will either be on Eric Ward, or Darrin Moore. If he's a little on the small side, then Moore would be a really bad matchup for Carter, because Moore is 6'4, and can jump. We don't really throw any jump balls to Ward. Ward just beats people because of his route running.

Also our D started the year off with a bang effectively shutting down good running teams like New Mexico and ranking top 10 through 6 games. But it has melted down since. Its still a mystery as too why it declined to such a great degree considering there were only a few injuries. In the last 5 games it has been sliced and diced on both the ground and in the air. Our QB will have to have a good game for us to win.

BTW another mystery is what is the deal with this aggie freak. Damn dude do you have a life. So you spend your entire holiday period writing a book trashing a school that is no longer in your conference. Did Some Tech guy drill your girl and send you over the edge or edges? Really get some help !!. It's not that bad..
