Hello and War Eagle! Congrats on a good year of football. The Penn St game was probably the game I saw the most of, seemed like an exciting season for all involved. I’ve been reading through the forum for a few weeks to learn more about your team. I hope we get a great game, without injury, and of course, an Auburn win!

A few things about Auburn, probably not much new information for you:

Our defense is tough and has kept us in every game. Our offense is run by a true freshman QB, sometimes it’s good, sometimes bad.

Defensive line will be difficult to handle. Mostly man coverage, corners usually start the game about 5-7 yds off the line. The goal is to not give up a big play. Two seniors at safety are good. Underclassmen at LBs can cover the run, ok with pass coverage. Defense overall is well-coached, disciplined, and tackles well. Unlikely we can hang in a shootout, so defensive stops will be very important.

Offense, whew, where to start. True freshman QB, Bo Nix. He’s shown signs of greatness and he’s thrown it straight to defenders. Ive felt that on most plays he has only one read, maybe a second, and then he runs. Our o-line is experienced, but a little inconsistent. We are likely to run the ball a lot. Boobie Whitlow will get the most carries, but we rotate 3 other guys in, too. Lots of jet sweeps to WR. Passing game is a lot of WR screens, wheel routes, slants...safe passes. A lot of misdirection, that’s kind of Gus’ thing. On second down between the 40s, expect the WR streaks.

That’s all I got. We will see you Wednesday morning. Here’s to a fun game

Thanks for the insight. Looking forward to a good game.

Nice to have you War Eagle. Your squad has the speed advantage but I think we have enough to compete. It's going to be our front seven getting penetration to disrupt your scheme. That's going to be tough as Carter Coughlin has been the only one to consistently do so. Your Dline seems scary and while our online is decent they might have trouble with your speed there. We also lose one of our better olineman in Big Dan Faalele 6'9" 400 and not fat). Your squad is favored for good reason but don't count our team out, they know how to win and they never quit...they've had some great comeback wins and the QB Tanner Morgan can be lights out in the passing game and very tough to stop. Hopefully it's a competitive game that's enjoyable for both fan bases.

If the Minnesota game plan is similar to the Wisconsin game, Auburn will win in a rout. Getting the ball out of Morgan’s hand quickly will be the key, but they haven’t run many plays like that all year, hence the numerous sacks. The people in charge of designing the game plan are presumably smart, so I’ll remain optimistic for a competitive game. On the defensive side, I think they need to maintain discipline with all of the misdirection, and make Bo Nix beat them with his arm. If he’s erratic, Minnesota DBs have the ability to make him pay for it.

Good stuff War Eagle.

Here's a fun fact about our recruiting in Auburn's neck of the woods. No kids from Alabama (our loss) but a good number from the east in Georgia.

Rodney Smith, RS Senior, RB
Shannon Brooks, RS Senior, RB
Terrell Smith, Soph, DB
Chris Williamson, RS Senior, DB
Rashod Batement, Soph, WR
Braelen Oliver, RS Fresh, LB
Justus Harris, Jr, DB
Michael Lantz, Fresh, K
Rashad Cheney Jr, Fresh, DL
Deangelo Carter, Fresh, DL

This emphasis on Georgia started with the previous regime under Coach Kill and is still being maintained. They all know very well the challenge before the Gophers in playing your team.

Pickerign went to Minnehaha.

Fixed it. Great. He's still on the GopherSports website for the roster. I nominate Word as the U's online fact checker!
I think someone else already has that title around here.

Penn State has good speed on O, and we managed to contain them. When we've lost, it's been getting beat on the lines, and I feel like that'll be the key on Wednesday. Having big Dan back would be huge, pardon the pun.

This assessment brought to you by a very confident and relaxed Auburn fan.

You said Boobie. Ha ha!

Nice summary, thanks. I do think these two teams match up better than a lot of people think. Should be fun and I think a close game.

War Eagle your coaching staff has the MN/IA and MN/WI games on video and have a very good idea how to beat MN.

There might just be a slight difference between LSU and MN.

I suspect that you get a lot of people accusing you of being too rosy and optimistic

I believe the hype of the Wisconsin game was a little bit too much for our squad to handle. I think we have a great group of leaders on this team and we will respond much better this game. I expect a great game from us on January 1 and will be enjoying the game to the very end no matter the result.

Of the two the I-O-W-A game was far more important.

Take care of business that afternoon...and handle Northwestern...then Bucky doesn't matter.

I agree on taking care of business. On the road at Iowa, not near the pressure of Game Day, West Title, the Axe and possible BIG Title Game and playing at home. Just my opinion.

make Bo Nix beat them with his arm. If he’s erratic, Minnesota DBs have the ability to make him pay for it.

You will likely get your chance. He has shown signs of making bad freshmen decisions throughout the year and it has yet to correct itself. Most of the improvement has come from play calling. However, there is still a tendency to try to make/force plays. It cost us the Florida game and didn't help in the LSU game.

Sean Clifford’s inaccuracy was a key to beating Penn State. He had been getting away with it against shitty teams all season, but he threw it to our DBs 3 times. Like Nix, he’s athletic enough to hurt you with his feet, but they were able to prevent him from doing that, for the most part.

Clifford and PSU did beat Michigan and Iowa in two of the three games leading into playing us..

I still agree with your overall point though. Penn State is probably the most comparable team to Auburn and we won that game. Our losses were to big physical teams that beat us up at the line.

I'm not super confident about this game but if it turns into a shoot out I think we can hang with them.

Right, I didn’t mean to imply that PSU didn’t play any good teams leading up to our game, but in many games this season, they put up a ton of points on inferior competition despite Clifford’s erratic play, including the bowl game against Memphis. In many of these games, there was a disconnect between the scoreboard and the box score, because of explosive plays in the running game, defensive touchdowns, etc. Auburn has shown some of this too. They often out-athlete their opponent, despite inconsistent play on offense.
